So this morning I was determined to work off last night’s margarita (it was a monster) in the pool and wondered if my self-imposed exercises are proper for burning calories and building muscle. I consulted Siri who took me to Shape Magazine who then confirmed that the way I exercise in the pool is correct! I was so excited to see that and also learn a few new ones. They list 33 you can do and laps don’t even make the list…which is great cause, I don’t like doing laps. I won’t bore you with all 33 but how about several that I currently do just in case you want to try them also?
Bicycle-this can be done with your elbows on the edge of the pool or a noodle. Works your core, shoulders, and legs
Double leg lift- this can be done while resting your arms on the edge or in my case, grabbing the step bars from behind. Raise both legs as high as possible, keeping them perfectly straight, then lower them down again.
Flutter Kick– Holding on to the pool edge, kick your legs rapidly behind you. Try not to splash and go as fast as you can. You could also use a noodle or paddleboard for this.
Noodle Bicycle-riding your noodle between your legs like a bicycle, go the length of the pool and back as many times as you can. You will feel the burn after a few trips!
Noodle Crunch-With your noodle under your shoulders, pull your abs in and do a crunch. Since the pool is three dimensional, you are working extra hard to keep your balance and stability
Noodle Flyback-Riding your noodle like before, use your arms in a sweeping motion to propel you up and down the length of the pool. This works chest, upper back, abs, and shoulders.
There are many more to choose from but these are the ones I was more or less doing on my own just kinda common sense movement in the pool. Who knew I was actually doing something right? Now, If I could just lay off those margaritas! Where has my willpower gone? It’s summertime, it’s hot and I’m spoiled! So the least I can do is try to work them off, take my supplements and vitamins and use my essential oils. That way maybe I can maintain and not gain more weight.
I know, I know, but what about all that sugar??? Well, I just drink tons of water all day long when I’ve been bad the night before to try and flush out all those toxins. Of course, it usually has either lemon essential oil, grapefruit or both in it. Once summer is over I’ll get back on track and behave myself. 😉
If you would like pictures to go with the exercises you choose, go check out Shape Magazine (Shape.com) and look under How To Burn Calories in the Pool-Without Swimming a Single Lap
Ok, remember I promised you guys an update when I had some time to experience the CBD oil and let you know the ways it has benefitted me? Well, it’s been about 2 months now, I have moved up to the 200 mg bottle from Blue Moon Hemp and I still vape the flan flavor, since I already know and trust that it will be delicious. They tout it as “the healthy vape” and it really is! It is also true that what they say about your body letting you know when it’s time to move up to the next dose, I knew when I didn’t get the same results anymore, it was time.
Now, I don’t know about you all, but I have trouble sleeping. Not anymore. Since I started vaping the CBD oil, I have had better sleep than the days of my youth, when I was carefree and stupid. And the other thing I noticed is that I am not as anxious as I used to be. It’s like things just don’t annoy me to the same degree they once did, I’m more chill about traffic, my kid’s problems and even my husband’s snoring doesn’t bother me- I hardly have to sleep in the guest room anymore!! One thing it can’t fix is the knot in my shoulder when I hunch over the computer too long, I’ll gladly go get a massage to remedy that when I can afford one though.
In the beginning, I would mix the CBD oil with my other vape juice, now I vape it straight. I find I don’t need as much, yet if I’m also enjoying a beverage (the adult kind) I tend to reach for it a little more, kind of like when I used to smoke. All of the research I’ve read says it also helps with brain function and stops seizures (although thankfully I’m not plagued by those) and a plethora of other things that benefit the same symptoms people smoke medical marijuana for. You do not have to be scared of CBD oil however, there is no THC ( the compound that gets you high), it does not alter your way of thinking or cause a stoned feeling. It is legal in all states and I actually get mine from a local vapor shop. It is expensive, yet lasts a long time if you don’t overuse it.
The advice that I took was some that I found on most every CBD oil website, start at the lowest dose and work your way up. I started with the 100 mg bottle and am now working on my 200 mg one. I go through about a dropper full a day and it still lasts me about a month. It is also available in tinctures, edibles and other ways, I just prefer vaping it since I was already doing that anyway. Since I don’t need to do it as much as I used to vape regular “juice”, I don’t find myself freaking out that I can’t vape at most restaurants, or maybe that’s just me in my newly chilled state. Whatever, I am good waiting until I get in the car or back home.
If yall have any questions, suggestions or just want to talk about it, leave a comment in the box. For now, I’ll sign off…I have a hot date with a silver fox!

Good afternoon all here’s hoping your Monday has been swell!
Saturday night we surprised my mother-in-law, Claudette, with dinner and a show at Grapevine’s Texas Star dinner theater. We had done this a few years ago for my sister-in-law and Claudette had such a blast, we thought we would do it for her milestone birthday. The woman just turned 80 and does not look it in the least!
I think we laughed harder at this show than the first one, I had no clue “who done it” but that didn’t deter me from trying to figure it out. The dinner was delicious and the acting was over the top fantastic. You can tell these are trained and seasoned actors that put on this production, which is an interactive one by the way. They walk all through the dining area, poking fun at the diners, sometimes touching you, sometimes just talking to you. At one point, my brother-in-law found his head being “molested” by one of the women characters-Helen Brimstone. (She was running her fingers through his hair and basically messing it up)
I love going to this place, we always have a good time. Now, the tickets are a little spendy but hey, you are getting dinner and a show so really, it isn’t that much. Gratuity has to be paid separately but they really bust their butts making sure you have everything you could ever want or need at your table. Lone Star Murder Mysteries and Lagniappe Productions are the brain child of director Chris Whatley and his wife Phyllis Addison and any show you see at the Texas Star is well worth the money, in my humble opinion. Phyllis passed away last year and the acting troupe dedicates each and every performance to her memory. Not only was she part owner but a talented actress herself, as well as a director and philanthropist. Portions of each production’s proceeds go to several different charities including American Cancer Society, KERA, and HSNT-(Humane Society of North Texas).
I almost forgot, if you solve the mystery, you are in the running for a T-shirt that says I Solved the Mystery and sports the Texas Star Murder Mystery logo.
I included a few fun pics from our party as well as the characters who played their parts to perfection. The next time you plan to be in or around Grapevine Texas, you owe it to yourself to (book ahead) take in dinner and a show and then enjoy historic main street and or the many wineries around town. As for us, we waited for our party next door at Chill Bar and had a yummy beverage until it was time to check in. I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as we enjoyed our evening and I’m sure Claudette will remember her 80th birthday with a smile.
For information on how to book a ticket to the show, go to texasstardinnertheater.com, or call 817-310-5588. This particular show runs through November 11, 2017, every Friday and Saturday night.
Again, so sorry this has been spread out so far, it’s easy to get out of the habit of daily writing and let life fill in the empty spaces.
The last leg of our journey was spent at my cousin Edie’s house. For two days we relaxed and visited with her sister Mary and Mary’s husband Buddy as well as enjoying her cooking and eating whatever I liked. Edie is a fantastic cook and really went out of her way to prepare a feast for us and other members of the Caldwell family-Uncle Tony and his wife Tammy, cousins Andrea and her children, Mary’s daughter Katie and her children, cousin Eva’s husband Robbie. There were other cousins I wanted to see, however, they were out of town or simply lived too far away to visit this time.
We ate and visited late into the night after everyone else left and the next day went to see Mary and Buddy’s house. After the short visit there, we went back to Edie’s for round two-dinner, drinks and late night conversations and then headed home the next day. We originally planned to go through Vicksburg, but Dave was anxious to get home so he could pick up his new truck the next day.
All in all it was a great trip and now it’s their turn to come visit us! 😉
I apologize to all of you that my account of our vacation is taking so long, however, it has been nice with less pressure on myself to write every day. I am trying to figure out my next steps for the direction of my writing and how it will all fit into my schedule but honestly, I’m hoping it just kind of falls into place somewhere along the way. Like that’s gonna happen, lol! Ever feel like you have too many irons in the fire? That’s me right now, I need to pick one and stick with that.
Anyway, continuing on our journey, Tuesday morning we woke up and went in search of some breakfast since the hotel only offered a very expensive option. (Their buffet did not do breakfast :0) So, again we settled on Waffle House because, seriously, coffee!! Then we were on a quest to find my sister’s old house and the area my Dad grew up in, called the Point. We drove around Biloxi and D’iberville a while and through texts with my sister we found one of her houses, yet that was not the one she had first. Then we went visiting and searching for a naval museum Dave wanted to see in Pascagoula.
Unfortunately, he didn’t copy the address out of the magazine he saw it in, so it was a dry run. We did, however, happen to visit the exact naval yard my Dad used to work in! He told me that when he saw my pictures of it from across the bay. Then it was on to visit his cousin in Woolmarket who told us where the museum was, but he had lost interest by that point. Note: My husband isn’t much on stopping and seeing things while on vacation, he is more of a drive til you get there kind of guy. He has been promising me we will stop at the Sam Houston memorial forever, still, we have not. Lol. Anyhoo, after our dry run, we went to try and see the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum but got there just as the doors closed! 🙁 Oh yeah, I almost forgot, we also visited another casino for a short bit before dinner the second night called Boomtown, we were not impressed. I wanted to go to the Hard Rock Casino since that is who my oldest son sells trips through for a living, but all I got was a lousy picture as we drove by it. 🙁
I had to include some shots of the decor at The Scarlet Pearl, that place was so beautiful. The next morning we went and visited my Dad’s friend Ethelyne before we headed to Lucedale for the remainder of our trip. I show a picture of her and the little figurine of a little dog she says he gave her when they were kids, she has kept it all these years. Next stop and the end of our week visiting friends and family from afar (say that 3 times fast) is Lucedale, Mississippi where my Mom is from and my surviving uncle and his wife live. I have cousins and their families still living there and it is sad that we have lost touch with each other and I don’t really know some of them well at all. I guess it’s just a fact of life though, everyone gets busy with their own lives and these things happen.
Good morning everyone and sorry for leading you on Monday and then disappearing yesterday. I had to take my Dad to the hospital Monday evening and did not get home until 4pm yesterday and I was too exhausted to get anything accomplished. He is much better now after suffering a huge spike in his blood pressure. We aren’t sure what caused it, I’m just glad he was well taken care of and is back at home now. He hates being in the hospital and I can attest that as a guest, it is not comfortable for us either! That chair/bed thing did not allow for a wink of sleep on my part. Oh well, I was just glad I was able to be there with him, he has a very difficult time communicating, therefore, I am his voice and ears. I have to say, he was a trooper though, being very patient with the long stay since he was ready to go home after the first hour of being there. Lol.
Back to my recap now, Sunday we went to our old church in Port Arthur, United Methodist Temple and I was happy to be able to visit with a few of my friends that attend there on a regular basis. Unfortunately, lots of people were out and they had a new pastor, it was good though and we enjoyed his message just the same. After church, we did a little shopping at the old mall we used to go to, looking for some shorts for Dave and scoring some major Shopkick points (I’m already at a $25 gift card level) and some cheap earrings for myself. They were attractive to me because they have colors in them that match so many of my outfits. Anyway, after the short shopping excursion, we went back and met the people that live in our old house and saw the fabulous job they have done making it their own. We were so happy to see they had not changed any of our improvements, just added a few of their own, like the fence he always wanted to replace and dividing that long living room up and creating a 4th bedroom. They were very nice to do that and looked like wonderful neighbors to my friend Mrs. Matar.
We had made plans to join Dave’s friends at dinner, so off we went to our old Mexican favorite, Rancho Grande and enjoyed their company and a wonderful dinner and margarita. Dave and I decided to go back to our motel and then walked to La Cantina to have one more because I was not ready to just go back and sit around at the hotel. He looks so relaxed and happy which made me glad we took this much-needed break. Monday morning, he left me to sleep in and pack up while he went and visited his old boss and co-workers. They enjoyed seeing him and wanted to know if he was ready to come back, lol. He does miss it, but when the time comes we have different plans for our retirement, lol.
After breakfast at yet another Waffle House, we got back on the road and headed for Biloxi where we were set up to spend two wonderful nights at the Scarlet Pearl Casino and Resort. It took approximately five hours and most of that was spent in the driving, pouring rain! We watched ourselves heading into it and Dave’s apprehension grew as the storm clouds darkened. Luckily it was just a matter of putting up with rainy miles some, where you could barely see the car in front of you, but by the time we got to Biloxi (the place of my birth), it was sunny and beautiful. We visited the welcome center and I was so impressed by the driftwood artwork I had to take a few pictures of some of the sculptures there. Then we walked out on the pier and I took a few more pics of the beach, nearby Deer Island and the other end of the strip of beach running back to Gulfport. I wish I could show you ALL the pictures I took, I’m afraid it would use up too much media! You might notice my stupid purse gets in more than one shot during this series, lol!
As we were walking back to our rented vehicle, some local news reporters showed up and wanted to interview us for a piece on why Biloxi beach is a family favorite. I could not believe that we were going to possibly be on the news after being there less than an hour. Well, I don’t think our story was featured as I could not find it anywhere and my cousin said she had not seen it either. Oh well!
Seriously folks, I took so many picture and just wish I could share them all! Maybe someone can tell me how to make the most of my space on my blog since I’m afraid to use too much media.
We then made our way to the casino hotel and it was more beautiful than I could have imagined. We had a great time gambling and playing mini-golf at the attached putt-putt course called Lava Links. The room was luxurious and the whole resort was exquisite, I would give it 5 stars and recommend it to everyone! The buffet featured everything anyone could ever want, I tried to be good the first night and only had some boiled shrimp and some salad. I won when we played our first round of Mini-golf and carried that high back into the casino, but did not continue my winning streak. We retired to our room and I went to sleep thinking of exploring Biloxi the next day. I’ll tell you all about that next time we talk. Right now there is much housework to be done and hopefully I can take a break or catch a few rays later, right here on the patio.
Good morning my peeps, and how is everyone today?! I am back, refreshed and ready to take on this manic Monday with tales and pictures of my vacation last week for anyone willing to listen! LOL
We started our trip in the city we used to live in, in SE Tx., a town called Groves. We wanted to catch up with old friends and some of David’s co-workers and that is exactly what we did. Unfortunately, sometimes yours truly gets caught up in the moment and enjoys the visit so much, she forgets to take pictures, so not everyone that we visited got photographed.
First, after a trying check in at our motel, we went to my old neighborhood and saw my neighbor Mrs. Matar. She looked wonderful and was soooo surprised to see us! We caught up a while and Dave wanted to go see one of his friends, so we left and Mrs. Matar wanted us to come back and see the improvements to our old house that the new tenants have done. Dave was not sure he was ready for that, however, I talked him into it the next day. Anyway, his friend was not home, so we ventured on to my old place of voluntary employment and saw my old co-worker Dossie. I shocked her as well and she seemed happy to see me but thought I was back for good. 🙁
Later on, we went and had a lovely, relaxing dinner with my other friends that lived around the corner from us, Roxanne and Darrell along with Dave’s co-worker and friend, Micheal. What a great time we had, noshing on delicious food from The Wheelhouse, overlooking Port Neches River with a beautiful rainbow (double actually) in the background…the whole time we were there! I had crawfish nachos and Dave had catfish after an appetizer of bacon wrapped shrimp that was scrumptious! I also enjoyed what they called a breakfast margarita followed by a regular frozen one. From there it was on to discover Port Neches new microbrewery where Darrell and Dave had some kind of craft beer, Roxanne and I had wine since neither of us can stand the taste of beer. Yes, the diet was officially dead while on vacation, and I’m only getting started! My theory was to see just how well all of my supplements and essential oils work if I eat exactly how I wanted to while on the trip. The good news is, if my scale can be believed, I only gained 4 pounds even after all the debauchery that occurred! I can remedy that very quickly by behaving this week.
Tomorrow I may cover two days since half of that day was spent on the road. I hope you enjoy my recap and photos, it’s all I have to show for my fantastic week off, except for a new outfit and a pair of earrings I bought while in Biloxi. See you all tomorrow for me it’s time for a bath and back to work. Have a beautiful Monday everyone! 🙂
I know, I said I wasn’t going to write for a few days, but I wanted to update everyone on the progress (or lack thereof) dealing with my stupid knee. Yesterday I was supposed to get my first Euflexxa injection (a gel-like, highly purified form of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance found in the body that helps cushion, lubricate, and protect the joints.)
I saw the doctor for the first time however, and he suggested that may not be right for me based on the level of arthritis I have, the fact that my kneecap has NO cushion under it anymore, making my knee a painful, crunchy mess. He suggested I get a cortisone shot to get me through the next two weeks and then when we get back from our trip to see family in Mississippi, I will get an MRI to see exactly what we are dealing with. Then he can say whether the other medicine will benefit me or if I should try something else.
He said I will be facing a total knee replacement in the future, I of course knew that already, but he wants me to be comfortable until I’m ready, which is why he wants to give me some non-surgical options. There are other medications besides Euflexxa injections that may help, or I may have to have surgery sooner than later, I’m just not sure yet. I will keep you all posted! Thanks ahead of time for your prayers, concerns and well wishes. Hopefully, I will be back to gardening pain free before we know it!
Ok, ok I know the count is all wrong, but last night as I looked in my sentence journal that I write in every day, it showed that I started the 365 day blogging project on July 1 last year. So technically that means I’m done! Blogging daily that is.
I just wanted to let everyone know that with the holiday coming up and our vacation being next week, I may take a few days off to rest and restructure the blog. I might rename, revamp or otherwise re-evaluate my blog, just not sure yet. At the very least, I will be blogging less frequently.
I hope you all are enjoying your long weekend, we had a good day, worked around the house, had a little pool time and then had my Dad, brother and oldest son over for dinner. Josh and Chris both had to work and Bubba and Connie were out of town. Claudette had a day with her friend so it was just us family.
Nothing new to report on the great truck search, maybe tomorrow.
It has been a great year of mostly continuous blogging, but I am looking forward to something more like a three day week…we will see. Everyone have a fantastic 4th of July and I will see you again after my break. Blasting off now, from the patio!!
