It’s the last morning having breakfast at The Crockett, time to say goodbye and begin our trip home with a side trip planned to see the Silos at Magnolia Farms in Waco. There they also have a brand new bakery, yet it is already famous for Joanna Gaines delicious, one-of-kind cupcakes.
The last marine to leave is Chuck, he shares a cup of coffee with us before heading up to pack, and we are left with a sadness that the fun has to end sometime, and wondering if and when we will all get together again. We get our bags and make our way to the supposedly haunted lobby, where we never felt one cold spot or a presence of any kind. Maybe the ghosts were on vacation!
We planned our route and headed north, excited at the prospect of good shopping, the Silos are the love child of Chip and Joanna Gaines from the DIY show Fixer Upper. They have a thriving business after transforming many of the run-down houses in Waco not to mention a huge cult following. The show had already made them popular and now thousands visit the Silos every day for a chance to purchase chic home decor and taste the wonderful creations of her bakery-a side hustle gone mad, just check out the line! Luckily it moved fast and soon we were doomed to a sugar coma after practically inhaling the delectable confection.
The lines evidently don’t deter many, the nice lady inside the bakery said Mondays were the busiest day, and annually they see around 2.6 million visitors a year in Waco, thanks to Chip and Joanna’s booming businesses. A recent article in Fox News said, “The ‘Fixer Upper’ Silos are quickly becoming the Times Square of Waco.”
First, though, we checked out Magnolia Market which is next door to the Silos. There was no entry to the Silos on this day, due to some construction or event I guess. The lines were long whether you were buying something or going to the restroom!
The selections were cute little tchotchkes but very expensive and too rich for our blood. My thought was to take her examples and try to mimic them in my own home for less. I’m pretty good at thrift store finds. Anyway, here’s a couple of her designs.

Soon we realized we better go get in that long line if we were going to get a taste of heaven so, that we did. Finally Barb and Claudette were at the counter and I was next.
Barb found us a nice spot and we sat down with our goodies and began to unwrap the adorable package they were placed in. Each cupcake is housed in its own little box, seated in a plastic cup to preserve its beauty. They were a wonder to behold and an even greater experience to taste. I got one called Nuts and Bolts, undoubtedly named by Chip, a delectable creation of vanilla cake, nuts, plus cream cheese icing, topped with a nut crumble. Oh, my God. I knew with every bite I was adding another pound but I just didn’t care. It was magnificent! I figured I could cleanse later, right now I was going to enjoy every last crumb!
I think we all did, Claudette and Barb look like they enjoyed theirs as well. They cost $3.50 each and it was worth every last cent.
Even the little leaves on top of their cupcakes were edible!
After chasing off the honeybees vying for a bite, we took a pic under the Magnolia sign for proof we were there. Then it was back on the road again headed for home. What a great ending to a wonderful trip! Talk about putting the icing on the cake!
