Dealing With The Deep Freeze

Morning everyone and how are you all handling the bitter temperatures? My solution was to stay inside and try to keep warm the best way I could!

And while we had no snow or ice to speak of, just frigid temps in the teens (this morning it was 13!) I could not get my hands and feet warm to save my life! This morning is a tiny bit better because I’m wearing sweatpants, socks and tennis shoes, my pajama top and a light sweater over that! The stupid heater is running non-stop yet won’t reach the temp of 71 to turn off…I think it’s running the fan!!!

I’m sorry to say that so far, the helichrysum blend is not stopping the ringing in my ears and the previous over-sensitivity to sound is back with a vengeance! I will keep on using it because one of the testimonials said it took as long as a month to work.

Today I will have to leave the relative warmth of the house to attend a Red Hat Society function…we are going to see Star Wars the Last Jedi and as usual, I’m dreaming of popcorn, fellowship, and fun! By that time the temperature will have reached 30 degrees (it is 12 now) so there’s that!

Not your Mama’s oatmeal

Yesterday I made one of my baked blueberry oatmeal dishes and I am about to sample it 😉  I used toasted pecans for this one.   Maybe that will warm me up! Sorry I have nothing in the giving-back-to-you-department this morning. 🙁   No sage advice, recipes, tips, or tricks. My brain is in story mode, trying to dream up a new one for Creative Nonfiction Magazine’s True Story issue. Yesterday I fine-tuned a story for a monthly challenge on Medium and now I have to get it submitted to their Slack community (so the community can read and review and make sure it’s worthy of publishing). It’s kind of cool and it will be my first one to have critiqued by other writers so…

I also got a story published this morning on one of the Medium pubs I contribute to, The Creative Cafe.   Did you know there is actually a name for the anger I feel when noises bother me? Yeah, check it out.

Saturday most of the family got together and went to Outback for dinner. It was nice and the kindly gentleman making balloon animals and such for the kiddos waiting in the long line made me a lovely balloon bouquet.

Flowers anyone?

I have no idea why he picked me, but I felt special. 😉

I also ran into an old co-worker there I had not seen in forever, that was nice but I didn’t have much time to reminisce, we got called to our table mid-conversation. 🙁

Well! The heater finally cut off- I cannot imagine what our electric bill is going to be!! Speaking of bills, we got the bill from the hospital yesterday…I thought Dave was gonna stroke out! It was ridiculous, and that was after insurance. Let me just say, it was in the triple digits!!!

Well, I’m done with the rant and I need to get to work finding work, lol. Nothing back from any of my proposals I sent to Upwork, I did hear back from an editor at a magazine I pitched to but I responded and she has not answered back yet. It all takes so much time in the writing world. You just have to be patient, diligent, and keep on truckin. Stay warm friends, peace out!

How It's Going

Morning everyone! I am really trying to have a good one because today makes one month exactly since my surgery…however, I got up this morning with that gaggy feeling in my throat again and I can only assume it’s because I overdid it at the computer yesterday. I worked hard at finding a potential client on Upwork, making sure my profile was tight and correct and then writing a proposal to try and get the contract with the client. Wish me luck!!

I’m also hanging out my shingle as an editor after taking another course on Udemy-they have been having a fantastic sale and you can get classes on just about anything right now as low as $10.99! this is also where I got started with learning copywriting (writing content for the web) a few years ago.

Anyone who follows me here and on Facebook needs to also be aware, if you got that stupid video attachment in a message from me, I did not send it, I was hacked and had to change my password, delete Messenger and re-install it!!! So sorry if it got on your computer-do not open it!

A few of my friends have checked in on me today and other than feeling weird today, my recovery has been going well, I was discharged from home PT yesterday and will be set up soon for outside PT, which will be nice because they do modalities like deep heat and massage (hopefully)!

I’m also happy to report the ringing in my ears is still there but seems somehow quieter if that makes any sense. I will continue to use the Helichrysum Oil Blend and see if it ends it completely. 🙂

I may even venture out to Sprouts or the Sunflower Shoppe today because I am completely out of Oregano essential oil and that simply will not do!! I rely on that oil especially,  during cold/flu season.  My brother has become such a believer in it he has been turning on all of his friends to this fantastic oil! I think he still uses it the not-so-tasty way by adding it to hot tea or something but I prefer to add a drop to my morning spoon of coconut oil that I then do my oil pulling routine with. It keeps the doctor away better than an apple a day.

I would use less than this lol

Have a  wonderful weekend everyone and try and stay warm, peace out from the patio! 😊

Exciting News for a Monday!

Good morning everyone and how are you on this beautiful Monday morning?!

I have a bit of exciting news to share with you that I hope will be of some help to all of us! Friday morning my friend and fellow blogger, Roxy (The Oily Guru) texted me with some great news about how to possibly cure my tinnitus that I have been plagued with for quite some time.

She said the essential oil Helichrysum has been proven to stop the ringing in the ears when rubbed in and around the ear along with the mastoid bone behind the ear. For me, this is beyond exciting because I have been suffering from this condition for many years. As you may or may not know, I have written many posts, stories and essays on the subject here and on Medium and I am ready to have tinnitus eliminated from my life!

We had quite the discussion on and off for the whole day about prices, brands, and testimonials of people it helped, even with more than tinnitus. It is well known as an additive in skin creams but is very expensive so she was kind enough to share with me a blend that was less expensive, yet trusted that might work for me. I ordered it later that day (or was it Saturday?) and it will arrive TODAY! So excited! With the money I earned from jobs on Crowd Content, I was able to make my purchase from my PayPal account!  I got permission from Roxy to discuss all this with you here today and I’m happy to share with you the company I purchased my oil from was Hopewell Oils and it is a Helichrysum Substitute Blend. I can’t wait to get it, use it, and share my results with you all! In one of the testimonials I read, it even helped stop the nerve pain from shoulder problems! That would also help me!

As for Roxy, she herself sells Young Living and would love to show you her oils and how you could save money and get a % off all of your oils. Click on the link for The Oily Guru above and it will take you to her site!

Moving on, in other news, I went to a brand new wellness store in Colleyville with my hubby this weekend and he purchased for me a new CBD tincture she had in her shop from American Shaman. It is CBD & terpene rich hemp oil which I am using sublingually. I have been using half a dropper twice a day but may start using a bit less three times a day in place of the muscle relaxers and pain pills. She even gave me a small sample of a CBD enriched lotion to use on the painful muscle spasms in my shoulders and I have to say, it is helping enough to keep me from having to take the other drugs! She was very knowledgeable about all the brands she sells in the store and all of her products. The tincture I got is tropical punch flavored, so it’s not bad at all. One can use it sublingually, put it in water, or vape it. If you would like to check this brand of products, go to Nature’s Mercantile CBD Store.

Actually, after looking online at the products, the brand I bought seems to be the American Shaman CBD products store, so check that one out as well. Unless you are familiar with CBD oil and the different strengths, you will have to do some research like I did and talk to various shop owners to learn more about it.

I have been working on trying to work as normal as possible but around two or three every day I find I need to rest my head against something and give my neck a break. I am still getting physical therapy to the house (they didn’t dismiss me after all) and once I go back to the dr on Jan 26, they will probably start having me go to an outside facility for my PT. Still healing!!

So much yet to discuss! Ok, when I started this blog, I intended it to be a vehicle to help people, a place to share knowledge, recipes, my passion for essential oils, a place to share my creative writing-poetry, essays, short stories, flash fiction-and here lately, it seems to have become more like a personal diary/journal. I want this year’s direction to get back on track with sharing helpful info like it was in the beginning, but still in a casual,” talk about anything” format. I bought a brand new large (but smaller than last year) desk calendar so I can plan blog posts, keep track of other writing assignments and important dates. I will still try to fit in all the stuff I did last year, but my aim is to make a difference in someone’s life by helping you with news you can use, products, recipes, books, services or whatever you need to enrich your life and health.

Yesterday, I discovered that I had earned enough money on my Ibotta app that I could transfer it to my PayPal account. Now I have money again, yea! Remember, Ibotta is the grocery app for your mobile device that helps you get money back on groceries and other things you would normally buy anyway. There are three ways to earn, Send in Receipts, Link Loyalty Cards, or Mobile In-App Purchases. Just click the link and it will take you to a signup page where you can get all the juicy details.

Also, before Christmas, I redeemed my Shopkick gift card to purchase the gift for our White Elephant gift exchange! So it didn’t actually cost me a dime. Cool! And all I did to earn the gift card was to walk in stores and score kicks (points) or scan products and earn kicks, or make purchases at certain stores my card is linked to (like Walmart) and the kicks added up fast! You can do it too, just click on the link and download the Shopkick app, it will take you to a signup page and explain everything you need to know to start earning your kicks. I know it works because I have had the app more than five years and I have redeemed a $25 gift card every year!

Well, the old neck is strained and I should go do my exercises and think about resting it for a little bit. Yall have a wonderful day and if you have any questions about anything I have discussed here today, please ask away by leaving me a comment!

A Late Week Post

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Sorry I’m so late getting my first post of the new year out! I have been busy though.  Yesterday I pitched an idea to a magazine concerning living with PKD and how I want to get the word out to a bigger audience just what PKD is and why it deserves finding for research and development just like the big boys like The Susan G Komen Foundation for breast cancer or The American Lung Association. Wish me luck because it’s something I’m passionate about and it’s also a paid opportunity. My essay was over 1000 words, so it counts towards writing more as well!

I’ve also been making breakfast recipes in the kitchen so I don’t get bored with the same old thing. Tuesday I made a vanilla chia breakfast bowl with made ahead vanilla chia pudding, then topped it with frozen blueberries and Van’s Cinnamon Heaven cereal. Ok, it was their recipe-I just copied it and made it on a much smaller scale.

My vanilla chia breakfast bowl

Sometimes, you just gotta have a carb though and I found a healthy, gluten free pancake I just had to try. The flour used is brown rice flour, and the other ingredients are just as healthy-blueberries, banana, coconut milk, cinnamon, and a couple of tsps of baking soda.

Blueberry, banana, cinnamon pancakes

They turn out so fluffy and the recipe made 8 decent sized pancakes. I plan to freeze them because I could barely eat one! They are a little dense, but delicious too! They would have been better had I had a full cup of blueberries like it called for and if I would have used 100% pure maple syrup but instead I used about a teaspoon of molasses. Of course, I also used some Kerrygold grass-fed butter when they were nice and hot…mmmm! It really hit the spot.

I found the recipe on my Pinterest board under Everything Paleo by a site called North South Blonde, they are vegan, gluten free, and Paleo. Here is the recipe:

Blueberry Banana Cinnamon Pancakes (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Paleo)
Recipe type: Breakfast / Brunch
Prep time: 5 mins Cook time: 15 mins Total time: 20 mins
Serves: 6

Ingredients
1 cup blueberries
1 large ripe banana
¾ cup almond milk
1½ cup brown rice flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 egg OR 1 tbsp ground flaxseed and 3 tbsp water
1 teaspoon cinnamon
pinch of salt
Instructions
Mix all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
Heat a large frying pan with a tsp of olive oil (or coconut oil if desired) on medium-high heat. Once the pan is hot, pour in the batter to form whichever size of pancake you’d like – large or small for the littles. Cook for a few minutes on each side until golden brown in colour. Make sure heat isn’t set high so pancakes don’t burn. Use a spatula to check colour underneath. Remove and serve and repeat for remainder of batter.
Top with more blueberries, cinnamon, and pure maple syrup.

Try these pancakes and let me know how you like them!

Other than that, I’ve been getting a little stronger each day, I’ve been making it to about two o’clock before needing to rest my neck and take my pain meds and muscle relaxers (1/2 dose and down to twice daily). I’m waiting for a call back from the doctor to find out if I can resume some of my normal activities, and also what happened to my physical therapy? If I’m done, that’s fine but I got no notification, no call or anything! Maybe I’ll call them directly about that!

i have not figured out what my plan for the new year is on the blog, but I do know I want to discuss PKD a lot more as well as CBD and the future of legalizing marijuana among other things. I want to earn money for writing, so I will be working harder toward that goal. I’m ready for my husband to retire! My creative writing is coming along as well and I want to start submitting stories on a regular basis and figure out a tracking system so I know what I’ve sent out and where. I want this year to be healthy, productive and fun. That is why I will probably take a class or two in something fun, like learning to draw, just because I’m still interested in that.

i hope you all achieve your goals for the new year! My posts may be sporadic as I figure some things out but I’ll be back, for now I’m staying indoors because like much of the nation, it’s chilly here on the patio!
