So…the Crackers

image

This is my breakfast from today. This is how I normally eat, homemade, whole foods for the most part. Lately however, maybe because I feel good and I’m at a healthy weight I think it’s ok, maybe because I’m giving in to some cravings, I don’t know, but I’ve been enjoying some snacks from Van’s brand foods. I know, here come the Paleo police, but, hang on! In moderation, I don’t see the harm.

My favorite of these delicious treats are the crackers they call The Perfect 10. Normally gluten free snacks taste like unsalted cardboard to me but not these, in fact, everything I’ve tasted from this company tastes awesome! I’ve tried about 3 different flavors of cereal and a couple of cracker flavors. These Perfect 10 crackers though, these are the bomb!! Hey, at least I eat them with guacamole, a healthy dip, or hummus, another healthy dip! Thing of it is though, they are fantabulous all by themselves!!

I actually wrote an entire article about them today-when it’s published I’ll send you the link, but the short of it is, they are made from grains and seeds and they are gluten free, non-GMO, they provide fiber, vitamins and nutrients so….they aren’t the most evil snack, just enjoy them in moderation! Now, when I was more of a Paleo purist, I wouldn’t touch them with a 10 ft pole. Only because I was taught you don’t eat anything from a box or a bag. Which is true, if you want to lose weight (which I don’t anymore) or if you have celiac or gluten issues (but these are ok for those people too!)

So, the “skinny” is, these crackers get my vote for a once in a while treat!

Now it’s your turn, what’s your favorite healthy snack? Got a comment or want to share some (friendly) advice? You know what to do! Talk to ya later, next time I’m on the patio!

Reflecting and Relaxing

Tonight, while sitting on the patio waiting for some rain that never came, I was trying to calm myself after yet another failed attempt at designing my writer’s website. I was going to try to follow along as Bamidele teaches us how to Earn Your First $1000 as a Freelance Writer, however, my website is frozen at the moment-possibly due to a security issue. Anyway, long story short, I’m at my wits end with it now.

Earlier, although it has been Africa hot here, the clouds helped lower temps to the point that being on the patio with the fan on was actually comfortable. Now that I’m finally relaxed with a glass of wine, I figure I’ll deal with all that other stress tomorrow, or whenever the security issue gets fixed. The website has been in place since March after all, and has yet to be designed. It can wait another day or two.

I’d rather talk about my other writing I did today, like how I submitted a poem I revised to Eskimo Pie, in hopes that I’d be published somewhere. Yeah, I know, it’s not my usual thing, but I like to write creatively as well as for business. I’ve written short stories and dream of writing a book someday too. All of this writing is good practice for would-be copywriters so….I don’t feel guilty at all. I also wrote a 50 word story for a mag that takes those but can’t submit until after the 1st of the month. Annnnd, I sent a query for yet another piece I wrote, asking if they would even consider it for their site. I need to have more productive days like this, it gives me a sense of accomplishment that maybe I’m getting somewhere, slowly but surely. I’ll let you all know how I got on, in the meantime, what is your hope and dream for your writing? I hope you all had a good day and feel good about what work you got done.

And to think, I was originally going to talk about my newest favorite snack cracker! What evs., this felt so much better! Writing is therapeutic! The more you do it, the better you feel. If you really want to know what that cracker is, join me tomorrow, from the patio! Nite! 😴

Delightful Decor

Another stage of development is complete, now that the wood wall is up in our master bedroom. Thanks to my son and husband who put in hours of work on it this weekend. I’m loving the look, and it hasn’t even been stained yet! Good grief, I could have made the bed before I took this pic! Ugh, sorry!

Soon, it will be a room comparable to the comfy cottages we frequently visit at the coast. I’ll be posting progress as we make it! Until then, goodnight and peaceful dreams.

Family Day

Whether is my church family, regular family or both, Sunday has become family day. I love having Sunday dinners at my house and having the family come over for food and visiting. We all eat and/or swim and talk about the week’s goings on and maybe watch some sport on tv or play pool together.

I usually try to attend church as well and have found that my week goes so much better when I do. Today I visited a different church because I was invited to attend by my new hairdresser. I’m not sure if I will go again, but it’s nice to have experienced something different. I’m a Methodist and this church identifies with a Pentacostal view. It was quite lively and I did enjoy the music. The pastor was well spoken and extremely knowledgeable about the bible. However, I personally feel that what you give and how you serve are between you and God and should be your choice. I feel this church put too much emphasis on both of these points and that is why I was glad I was merely a visitor.

Dave and Chris got another project close to completion today with the installation of the wood wall in the master bedroom. It was so nice to have our son with us all weekend and he was a huge help to his dad on this project. So in two weekends they got the room painted and got the wall up. Next is crown molding and staining the wall, and then they will build the headboard, which will be a beachy looking wood like old fence panel or pallet boards that have been painted, stained or distressed to look that way.  I can’t wait for it to all come together, my vision is for it to look like a beach cottage like we stay in when we visit Port Aransas. My entire house has little touches of ocean love here and there, from my dolphin collection to shells I’ve gathered through the years, I always like to insert my love for the beach into the decor somehow.

Although it has been a fun and full day, it’s time now to rest and recover so I’m ready to face a new day. Goodnight all, see you tomorrow, on the patio!

Sharp Cuts and New Do's

This was the week for new do’s. Stephanie got her hair cut and colored and I liked it so much, I had her hairdresser work her magic on me. Stacy is a very special lady and I really  appreciate how she works to accommodate Stephanie and me. Today it was my turn, excuse the bad pic of me, however, the cut is awesome. I’m sure it will be easy to maintain, with or without products and too much effort.

My lack of makeup and age was showing, that’s alright-it is what it is. I’m one happy customer and I give Stacy and all the girls at Sharp Cuts a glowing endorsement. Salon services at very reasonable prices, respectful treatment of all clients and they are super down to earth ladies.

Today I just got cut and styled. Can’t wait for it to be color time! I need to do a little bit towards strengthening my hair, other than that, they will be ready when I am. I not only look forward to that, but to the day someone invents a wax for super sensitive people like me, so someday, I won’t have to pluck these brows any more. Last time I let someone try it on me, I looked like Rocky after a boxing match saying, “cut me Mick!” Before you advise, I have also done the threading thing, not much better, but tolerable. Luckily, due to my age and my hormones, my hair doesn’t grow as thick or as fast as it used to. My nails, now that’s a different story! See y’all tomorrow, on the patio!
