How I Met My Inspiration

Mornin everyone and have I got a treat for you!

This weekend (Friday night) I got to attend a conference by the essential oil and healthcare fitness guru himself…Dr. Axe!! My go-to guy when I talk about all these things on my blog, the guy I look to for recipes and info on essential oils…I actually got to meet!

The seminar was brilliant, he covered a few things I had never heard him mention before and then afterward, we had a Q&A session and pictures!!

Myself and Dr Axe at the seminar

He looks gigantic next to me, it’s probably the camera angle, then again, I’m super short!! 4’9″ to be exact!

This girl was in hog heaven, I recorded the whole speech, so I could refer to it here.

Dr Axe speaking to the crowd

He explained how the body has been treated since ancient times by how hot or cold, damp or dry it is, and how you don’t treat the symptoms of a disease, you find the source.  Like, when you have inflammation, that would be a symptom of it being hot or aggravated and something like Candida (yeast) would be too damp. Then the ancient doctors would treat the patient with foods like bone broth and herbal teas, or essential oils and tinctures.

Hippocrates said “All disease begins in the gut”

He talked about how emotions like fear and worry cause disease like cancer, which his mom had and conquered with chemo at first, and then when that didn’t work, she tried his way with ancient, Chinese medicine like bone broth, herbs, essential oils, and exercise. Today she is in remission and the best shape of her life!

He talked about how in Biblical times they healed the body with foods easy on the system, like bone broth and coconut oil, pears and blueberries, and herbal tea, because they are easy to digest. Changing the diet is the beginning of healing the leaky gut. He also explained how in our society we stay in a high-stress, flight or fight state and that we need to consume adaptogens like essential oils and herbs like holy basil and ashwagandha.

He explained so many things that it would be better for you to listen to the recording. The takeaway for me was how important it is to start eating bone broth to help strengthen my joints and give me a more youthful, wrinkle-free appearance. I need to get back to consuming turmeric and ginger to fight inflammation and improve digestion. I already use a lot of essential oils, yet there are so many more I had never heard of. Black seed, holy basil and milk thistle are some he mentioned several times. Bitter herbs fight dampness in the body and also detox the body of toxins from the food we eat and the environment we live in.

Nutrient-rich bone broth has many benefits

Lucky for us attending the conference, he had his line of essential oils and all of his bone broth products available for up to half off the regular price! So I got some coffee and grapefruit essential oils and did not want to wait in line for the bone broth protein, I got that Saturday night after our date at the Sunflower Shoppe, who sponsored the seminar. Thankfully, it was still half price so I got some chocolate flavored to make smoothies and baked goods with.

His line of products is called Ancient Nutrition and can be found online at Amazon, and at the Sunflower Shoppe which has three locations here in the metroplex or you can purchase online. I have no affiliation with any of these retailers or products, just trying to give some good info so it may help someone. 🙂 He also sells it at his own online store at DrAxe.com.

I have the recording if anyone wants to listen to it, I can email it to you, just ask me in the comments. I hope you try some or all of these products if for no other reason than to begin the healing process and reclaim that youthful glow. But remember, you can’t expect a miracle just using these products alone.

I hope you try some or all of these products if for no other reason than to begin the healing process and reclaim that youthful glow. But remember, you can’t expect a miracle just using these products alone. You have to start with a good attitude, a clean diet and at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. Take a walk, swim, or ride a bike around the neighborhood. Do some research on essential oils and bone broth, read all the benefits and you and your doctor come up with a health plan that works for you. Have a great Monday and I’ll see ya later, on the patio! 🙂

Guess What? You Can Buy Kerrygold Butter On Amazon…But I Wouldn't Recommend It

*This post may contain affiliate links, please check my disclosure.

So, I have to provide reviews of all kinds here on the patio, so just for grins, I thought I’d check into whether my favorite butter, that being the grass-fed kind, specifically Kerrygold brand, could be purchased on Amazon...guess what?! You can!! However, I would not recommend it, only because it costs considerably more than you would pay for it in the store.

Real butter from real ingredients

Currently, I buy mine at Walmart for $3.44 per delicious gold brick. At Amazon, the same brick will cost $4.40 plus tax and shipping. Really? Actually, the first ad that popped up said $14.95 + $4.99 shipping! Must be a misprint I thought, so I added it to my cart to see if it really was only one 8oz. brick of butter and sure enough, it was! I’m definitely not buying one brick of butter no matter how tasty for upwards of $25!

By the way, I’m loving using Grammarly on both of my websites, it corrects my spelling, punctuation,  and other errors so editing my content is a breeze. Thanks, Grammarly!

Back to the butter though, Kerrygold is the ONLY butter I use, and I use it every day in my bulletproof coffee, for my sweet potatoes and whenever else I need to use butter. Yes, it costs a little bit more, but I love the quality and assurance that the ingredients are made from pure full fat cream that comes from grass fed cows.

There are plenty of other products that are a better buy on Amazon, and one thing I like is the Smile program. A portion of your purchase goes to your favorite charity, you can change it anytime you want! It’s free to join and it goes to a good cause. They are also selling produce now on Amazon, through a program called Prime Fresh. Pretty soon, there will be no need to go to the grocery store. Of course, you pay for this convenience, but it’s worth it not to have to go to the grocery store. Shopping from your home in your pj’s sounds good to me!

Explanation of Prime Fresh membership

So, if you want to buy your butter from Amazon, or anything else for that matter, they have thousands of products and tons of services to try. There is even a new music service that is free to join for a short period, go and check it out! For me, it’s just one of those pick and choose kind of deals, I won’t be buying my butter from Amazon but I would definitely buy a book or some essential oils or something. If you would like to try anything I have mentioned here today, just click on any of the blue links, and they will take you where you want to go. Thanks for stopping by!

Day 324-Manic Monday-What Are Your Top Three?

*This post may contain affiliate links, please check my disclosure.

Hey and welcome to another renamed day of the week for Kimmy’s Patio…Manic Monday, cause that’s how most of them feel to me.

Do you find that you are running to the store more often for the same three things? Well, when I was eating like everyone else and smoking, it used to be milk, bread, and cigarettes.

Real butter, full fat

Now that I eat more like a caveman, it’s butter, coconut oil, and tea! I use Kerrygold butter in my coffee every day and on my sweet potatoes at least twice, sometimes more a week. I need the healthy fats in my diet. The next thing is coconut oil, and here lately, I have been going less because I bought two big jars of Nature’s Way brand last time I went to the Sunflower Shoppe because they had a bogo sale.

32 oz jar, such a good deal on bogo

I need to buy it by the gallon, as much as I use! The third thing is tea.  Now,  I don’t know about you, but in the summer time, I go through ice tea, well…like water, lol! So I am always having to buy the big box of family sized bags to make my pitchers of iced tea.

My preferred brand

What are your serial three products? The ones you have to buy over and over again? Just curious because I was going to remind you that Amazon sells just about everything these days, even produce!!! Click on the link and it will take you to the review I wrote over on my website. It is amazing how many products and services this company covers. The new one is Prime Fresh and that’s where you get the produce I spoke of earlier.

Would you ever consider buying your produce through the mail? I’m just curious, lot’s of folks don’t seem to want to go shopping the traditional way anymore. Maybe the convenience of shopping from home is more appealing to some folks, or maybe it’s a necessity. Either way, it is so nice to know that Amazon provides a service like that, yes it comes at a price, but it may be worth it to you. Let me know how you feel in the comments.

Day 308-Throwback Thursday-Who's Oats Were They Eating?

*This post may contain affiliate links, please see my disclosure.

My grandparents, Edith and Robert Caldwell

Meet Edith and Robert Caldwell. This is a picture of them at their 50th Golden wedding anniversary party (which I did not get to attend). They passed from this earth many years ago, but they were special to me while they were here because I spent much of my early life with them.

Like most people, one of the things that are memorable about your grandparents is the kind of food they fed you. Well, back in those days, no one was concerned with high cholesterol, no one worried about food making you fat…they didn’t have to because people worked! They labored hard on farms or in fields and most likely sweated off what they were ingesting.

Anyway, what I remember the most was grandmother’s home-made biscuits and molasses. Mmmmm, I can still remember how wonderful that tasted and how I wish I could eat like that today. Now, I would be lying if I told you I knew what kind of oatmeal they ate, I’m just sure they ate it! My guess would be that they ate good old fashioned Quaker Oats fixed in a pot on the stove. Not my cup of tea, but to each his own.

I wish Grandmother was alive for me to show her my baked oatmeal made with Bob’s Red Mill Steel-Cut Oats, it is so addicting that I am a changed woman, as I talked about on my website Products From the Patio earlier today. I would tell her how different baked oatmeal tastes, how you can change up the recipe and where to buy the best steel-cut oats for her money. Why, it tastes more like a custard with fruit and nuts than a stuffy old bowl of slimy oatmeal. (to me anyway) I would make it for her and my Granddad and get their feedback since they were the best judges of how food is supposed to taste in the whole wide world.

Maybe I would show her how, like you, she could click a link and it would take her straight to Amazon, where she could purchase some for herself. What do you think? Would she be impressed by that today? How about you? Would you take a chance on trying some steel-cut oats sometime? Click the link and check them out for yourself and see if they are not the best tasting steel-cut oats you ever tried, then get back to me and tell me what you thought.

That’s it for today, come back tomorrow for Flashback Friday and see what the storyteller has to say. She will be hanging out until then, nursing her sore knee on the patio. (or possibly in the pool;))
