What to do for keto flu is basically-get more salt and fat in your diet, even if you are not used to salting your food any more.
More on that later, right now I want to explain the too-da-loo part. I will be on vacation next week! I didn’t think I would get to go, but my in-laws are letting me tag along. Yea!
I hope to learn how to schedule posts, if not, I will try to post in my down time. I tell you what, I have been studying, writing, and working so much, I am not sure that’s why my eyes hurt, or if I have developed allergies this year, or if I have a touch of keto flu myself.
Let’s dive in to what keto flu is, how you can prevent it, and what to do about it if you get it.
What is Keto Flu?
Keto flu is what is happening inside your body as you restrict it from carbohydrates. See, your body is used to burning sugar for fuel which it was getting from all the carbs you used to eat.
Now, you’ve drastically stopped eating all that garbage and your body is confused. It wants them back, so you develop symptoms like these:
Lack of focus & concentration
I’m pretty sure that I go in and out of this keto flu myself, when I don’t strictly adhere to the diet, and also I think that may have happened to my dad when he stopped eating bread, pasta, and cereal.
When we behave, however, and follow the diet/lifestyle to the letter, it takes our bodies about two weeks to a month to get over the keto flu and become better adapted at burning fat for fuel. This is called ketosis.
Not everyone develops these symptoms, or maybe you only developed one or two. For me, I notice fatigue, and sugar cravings the most. But brain fog and lack of concentration also are a factor for me.
I should have converted to keto quickly and with less problems, and I did in the beginning, because I was already Paleo. So I had done the hard work of getting off the sugar already. But…
I still crave sweets. Even if those sweets are different now because I use stevia. And depending on what is happening around me, I may still be tempted by some carbs, like chips at a Mexican restaurant or alcohol when I want a skinny (or not) margarita.
So, basically, I am torturing my poor body, and worse, I am never going to lose those last few stubborn pounds going in and out of ketosis. Exercise is also a factor.
Sedentary people like me will find it more difficult than people who are able to exercise on a regular basis. Oh, sure, I get in the pool pretty often and try to work out a bit, but right now I’m still pretty restricted because of my knee and what I’m going through.
How Do We Remedy The Keto Flu?
Drink more water. Add a pinch of salt to it. If you are 19 and older, try to drink 2.7 liters a day. “All it takes is a water loss of 2% of your body weight to impair physical performance and a 2.8% water loss to impair cognitive function”.
Get more sodium, potassium, and magnesium in your diet. Loss of sodium and potassium can cause lightheadedness, fatigue, headaches, and cramping due to the lowering of insulin on the keto diet.
Add more fat, especially MCT’s to your diet. Coconut oil, and pure MCT oil supply the necessary fats to provide your liver cells with acetyl-CoA that they can use to make ketones.
If you supplement with MCT oil from the start, you will likely prevent getting keto flu at all! That may explain why I did so well also, I have been in love with coconut oil (the source of MCT’s) for 3+ years! Seriously, I should buy it by the gallon!
Go for a walk first thing in the morning-or some other form of low-intensity exercise. This will help your body increase fat burning and kickstart ketosis, especially if you make your walk last about an hour.
5. Get enough sleep! This is a tough one for me also. Even though most nights I’m in bed at ten, I read for a while, then because my husband gets up early, so do I. I can’t help it. My mind wakes up, my ears are sensitive and painful (I have Hyperacusis) and so it is almost impossible for me to go back to sleep.
I will tell you an easy way to get more MCT’s in your diet…bulletproof coffee! I know I’ve told you many times before, but for any newcomers to my blog, here is the skinny.
First you brew a nice, hot cup of coffee. If you have a Ninja blender, or a Magic Bullet, add your hot coffee plus 1 Tbsp of MCT or coconut oil (unrefined, 100% pure, organic please), 1 Tbsp of grass-fed butter (Kerrygold) and a dash of cinnamon (Ceylon is best), and a few drops of pure vanilla extract. If you use sweetener, add that now. I use this (Pyure brand stevia). Mix all that in you bullet or Ninja cup and pour into your favorite coffee mug. Ahhhhhh. Heaven in a cup.
I do this every. Single. Day. Which might explain why after 8 years, my Ninja has had enough. It has gone kaput. Time for a new one. Or maybe an upgrade. 🙂 I have been hearing so many great reviews about the Blendtec. We will see.
(Maybe Santa will get me one for Christmas 😉 )
Anyway, back to the subject of getting enough sleep. I swear, the nights I use my CBD oil (I vape it) are the nights I sleep the best. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep a night. Ha! I’m lucky if I get 6! Here’s a link for my CBD oil (I get no comp for this) Blue Moon Hemp

Sleep deprivation is real, people, and causes all kinds of problems. As a nation we do not get enough sleep, the evidence is everywhere. Distracted drivers causing accidents, workers falling asleep on the job, kids nodding off in class, you feel me?
Try meditation. I personally have not tried this step, however that doesn’t mean I’m not willing to give it a shot. I am just giving you guys suggestions provided by the experts and keto gurus I have been following and studying.

Morning everyone from a very chilly patio today! I was a late riser having had my sleep be broken a few times last night and I’m very slow to get moving this morning. (darn dogs, darn husband) 😉 That being said, it’s time to move on.
I don’t know if I told you guys or not, but I finally started journaling last week. I don’t mean on the computer-like this blog, I mean literally free writing for 10-15 minutes every morning to put my thoughts (however random) down on paper, clear my head, and just make an already good habit of writing something every day even better! It may read like gibberish to anyone else, but that is what all the “experts” on the subject of writing say to do, and I’m here to tell you, it works!
I think I have a bit of good news to report, after a week on the new Keto diet, my test strips showed Friday that I was indeed in ketosis. Now, I’ve heard that this may or may not be the best indication, but if you need another, my breath seems to be changing as well. (one of the more unpleasant side effects) I got on the scale and I weighed 110lbs! Ok, I may have weighed wrong last Monday, or my eyes did not read the scale correctly, there is no darn way I lost 5 lbs in one week. That’s what it said though.
Ok, the whole name-change thing. I’ve been toying around with the idea of renaming the blog something more solid so everyone knows what I’m about in case I ever want to get serious about this blogging thing. 😉 I was thinking something like Kimmy’s Keto Patio…unless yall have a better idea. Any suggestions are welcome, I will continue discussing anything relevant to alternative health ie; Paleo lifestyle, Keto dieting, recipes for both, essential oils, CBD and its benefits, in addition to PKD, book reviews, music, writing, or anything else that you all want to know about/hear.
We had a nice weekend and got to meet and spend time with my middle son, Joshua’s new girlfriend Chastity. I also got my baby fix while waiting at their apartment for her mother to come pick up her boys-she has a 9-month-old and a nine-year-old! I was trying to help them get organized and packed and he was crying, so I went into the bedroom and played with him, held him, and generally tried to keep him entertained while they did their thing. He is a sweet baby, but what a chunk! I wish I would have taken his picture (I wasn’t thinking) he and his brother are both handsome. His brother is Hayden and he is Westin (Westyn?) not sure how she spells it. I did get a picture of the two of them though.
We also spent time with my Dad and Sean, but never got her (Chastity) over to Claudette’s to be introduced. That’s alright, there will be another opportunity I’m sure. Chris came over for a short visit on Saturday and then we took them home yesterday. Over the weekend Dave and I helped him work up a resume. Will you all join me in praying his application for a new job is accepted and he gets work?! I need all the prayers I can get on this one people. He needs a job badly in this particular situation. Thanks in advance! 🙂
Well, I could talk to you guys all day but I have lots to do, I haven’t done my exercises yet, I got a small gig I need to get going on and the house isn’t going to clean itself. Cooking to do, food prep, oh, and I’m going to talk to TCJC about a couple of writing classes. And if that’s not enough, I need to go to Kohls and JoAnn’s today (maybe that will do for my walking) so I better get busy. (I need new yarn and I have a coupon burning a hole in my pocket 🙂 )
One more thing…I got a temporary 2-day job delivering flowers for Brice’s florists for Valentine’s! That will bring in some much-needed, good money (although it will be a long 2 days) and the days I’ll be working are the 13th and 14th of Feb.
The doctor told me on Friday I was good to go, could do anything I felt up to and he would see me in 3 months! Before that visit, I will have x-rays taken to see how well everything is healing up in there, he also wants me to back off my Gabapentin and see if my neck pain is really gone yet. Unfortunately, the numbness in my fingers and my right heel is still there and he said that may take up to a year to resolve! Ugh! Plus, I still get tired really easy when I do a lot, I need to build up my tolerance before that week of the job!

In all the hullabaloo yesterday, cleaning, cooking and making sure everything went off without a hitch for the big surprise party…I completely forgot to blog, breaking my almost year long record. 🙁
Maybe y’all didn’t even notice, or care for that matter, because really it was only important to me. My son told me at 3am to give myself a break, I have been working hard and needed to relax, and while that may be true, I will still regret missing a day. Besides, it certainly wasn’t getting done by that time in the morning! We didn’t go to bed until 4am and then I was back up at 7:30. :/
If I post a few highlight pics of the fabulous 50’s party maybe that will cheer us all up.
After the birthday girls arrived and we got dinner out of the way, the party moved to the patio, here we enjoyed Karaoke and dancing. This is Michelle’s element and she had a very fun time. I wish I could show you the videos, I tried to add them here but don’t know why it wouldn’t let me.
Michelle still has a good relationship with her girl’s dad and here is Brandi dancing with her dad, Robert.

Later, I finally got the girls to break away and open their cards and gifts. Before that though, I checked on my Dad and brother who were enjoying playing pool in the mostly completed game room (man cave).
Connie got the shop light and backyard umbrella she was wanting, along with some cute cards.
Michelle enjoyed the BFF heart charm we got her and shows the card her daughter got her displaying the fact she will be getting concert tickets to BFD (Big Freakin Deal), featuring bands like Skillet and Pretty Reckless among others. She picked me as her concert buddy! I can’t wait!!
I don’t know about the birthday girls, but this girl is wiped out! All the nerves and excitement combined with lack of sleep has me close to ready for bed. I’m so happy everything went well and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Of course, the mark of a good party is when someone calls the cops for a noise violation 😡but we just toned it down and moved it inside for awhile. No harm, no foul. Our neighbors just aren’t used to 50 year olds and their kids singing hard rock music through a karaoke machine. 😂 If you look at my timeline on Facebook, you may be able to see some of the videos.
I hope you all enjoyed a fabulous Mother’s Day, my boys wanted to go play golf and I agreed they deserved it after all they did to finish remodeling in time for the party. That was present enough, but they got me cards and a hibiscus as well! After they left, I decided to finally indulge myself and had a free ticket to the movies, I went and saw The Circle with Tom Hanks-it was pretty good. I mainly wanted the popcorn! 😊 Of course, a small popcorn and a medium drink was $13!! The price you pay for escapism! (And movie popcorn)!

Good morning from a windy, chilly patio! Thank you for all of your prayers, they worked! Although we were chilly outside and even wrapped up in blankets in front of fires and heaters outside, it did not rain or storm as predicted! I’m happy to report that the fish fry went off without a hitch and a good time was had by all.
Now to some sad news. I’m seeing less reader comments and likes than I have previously enjoyed, and no one at all commented on the product review I did- does this mean you don’t like what I’m writing about, or did everyone just slow down in their own blogosphere? I’m not sure, but a girl sure could use some help over here! Throw me a bone will ya? I realize that so far my product/service reviews have been about things writing related, however, I assure you that I will get to products I use in my daily life like the types of essential oils or food choices we make here on the patio.
I would welcome any suggestions/comments at all! As I continue to work on the direction of my blog/business, I only know this for sure: I just want to help you in whatever way I can. So, I need feedback to know what that is. For now, I will plan May’s calendar pretty much the same way it has been unless you have other ideas for new features or clue me in to the kind of content you want/need me to provide.
I realize also that everyone is busy in their own lives/businesses and there is a lot going on in the writing world. I have been so busy myself finishing the course Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing and working on my website that I haven’t been doing much in the way of creative writing (like on Medium or Prose) except for here on the blog on Fridays.
