Fight Viruses With These Six Essential Oils

Did you know you can fight viruses with essential oils? Yes! Besides having antibacterial and antifungal properties, these 6 essential oils also fight viruses, in the air, on surfaces, and inside your body.

Another good reason for using essential oils, especially these six I will discuss here, is that they promote healing, lift your spirits and give you a sense of well-being, help with focus and energy, and keep your house smelling clean and fresh!

In one German hospital air disinfection test, bacteria were reduced by 40% after twenty minutes, 80% after 1 hour, and 100% after 9 hours using essential oils of pine, thyme, mint, lavender, rosemary, clove and cinnamon.

But the key to how essential oils perform in virus suppression is found in aromatic molecules.

Several different essential oils have prominent anti-microbial and virus-inhibiting effects because of the phenols, terpenols, and aldehydes they all possess.

A few of my favorites

Here are the top six essential oils for fighting topical and airborne viruses in your home:

  • Tea Tree
  • Peppermint
  • Lemon
  • Eucalyptus
  • Lavender
  • Cinnamon

How to use essential oils to fight bacteria and viruses

  • Topically

Make a blend of your choice with around 4 drops per 10ml of a carrier oil, such as almond oil, jojoba oil, or fractionated coconut oils and rub your chest and body when you feel a cold or flu coming on.
It will aid in diminishing your symptoms as well as attacking the bacteria and viruses causing your infection and illness.

  • As a cleanser

To effectively kill surface germs, add 25 drops of essential oils to a spray bottle filled with 250ml of distilled water and spray down frequently used surfaces in your home, office, and vehicles.
You may also add to your mopping water essential oils to clean your floors.

  •  Air purification

Diffuse 8-10 drops of your choice of essential oils in a room diffuser to purify the air of germs and viruses.

My choice would be a blend of peppermint, eucalyptus, thyme, and lemon. All have the necessary antiviral properties to rid your home of nasty viruses and also freshen the air.

Tee tree plant courtesy wikipedia

Tea tree oil is amazing for killing fungus, mold, and for destroying bacteria and viruses. Combining tea tree and eucalyptus makes a potent formula for killing E. coli and fighting staff infections.

Also known as melaleuca, tea tree oil is one of the most popular essential oils and is especially helpful in steamy, musty areas like bathrooms and sickrooms.

Tea tree oil supports a healthy immune system, fights blemishes, freshens breath if used in toothpaste and/or mouthwash, and cleanses the air.

Peppermint essential oil is stimulating, helps with focus, can relieve upset stomach, and supports a healthy digestive and respiratory systems.

Added to a carrier oil, peppermint essential oil also makes a great massage oil for sore muscles, freshens a glass of water or iced tea, and calms menopausal surges when mixed with witch hazel to make a cooling facial mist. (avoid the eye area!)

Also used in toothpastes and mouthwash, peppermint essential oil kills bacteria for fresh breath and healthy gums.

It’s compounds such as camphor, carvacrol, and menthol are resistant to many perilous strains of bacteria, such as salmonella, staph and E. coli.

Lemon essential oil makes an excellent cleanser due to it’s antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. It can be used for disinfecting metal surfaces, dishes, clothes and even your body!

After an illness, adding several drops of lemon essential oil in the wash cycle will kill odors and bacteria from your clothes.

Making an effective homemade all-purpose cleaner is easy by adding lemon essential oil to white or apple cider vinegar.

Lemon essential oil also purifies the air, so it’s great for the diffuser as well as lifting mood and spirits.

Add a drop of pure, 100% therapeutic grade lemon essential oil to your water or iced tea for a quick energy boost!

Eucalyptus essential oil is a great antiseptic due to it’s germicidal qualities, so it is suitable to treat cuts, wounds, abrasions, sores, and ulcers. Mixed with tea tree oil it becomes the perfect germicide cleansing solution.

In the late 1800’s, eucalyptus oil was used for the treatment of respiratory conditions such as asthma, flu, bronchitis, and coughs.
It is still highly recommended today for relief of colds, and congestion of the upper respiratory tract.

This is the very essential oil used in products like Vicks VapoRub because of its ability to reduce the muscle spasms that can narrow the airway making it difficult to breath. *This makes the oil and effective fighter of bronchitis and asthma, but should only be used in a carrier oil, or mixed in a lotion.

*hot essential oils like eucalyptus, cinnamon, thyme, and oregano will burn the skin if used neat.

I could go on and on about the benefits and uses of eucalyptus essential oil, however, to be brief, I’m highlighting the uses that are most helpful in dealing with the situation we find ourselves in today with the Coronavirus.

Lavender essential oil is great for boosting the immune system, it is the most well-known of all the essential oils, promotes calm, is included in many body products, as well as laundry products, and can aid in getting a restful sleep.

Use of lavender essential oil has been around for centuries as an effective stress manager as well as an anxiety calmer.

Calms skin irritations and helps heal bug bites. It is effective for treating fungal infections, so it might help with yeast infections, ringworm, and/or athlete’s foot.

Research has also shown some effectiveness for treatment of migraines, and headaches, hair growth, and wound healing.

Lavender essential oil has a pleasant scent which is why it is in so many formulations of body products, and used in a diffuser by the bed can sent one off to lala land in no time.

Although it calms skin irritations, it is recommended you use a couple of drops with a carrier oil just to be safe.

Diffusing the oil is the safest method for most applications, you can purchase an inexpensive diffuser almost anywhere these days, I have used everything form $50 dollar brands to one I found at a garage sale for $3 and they all work the same. To save time and money, I’ve included a good one here.

I prefer small, portable diffusers so I can move them around to whatever room I’m working in, there are also wearable diffusers, and car diffusers so you can take your essential oils to go!

Cinnamon essential oil is another common oil with a variety of uses. It’s tasty but *hot, so use with a carrier oil, in a diffuser, or diluted in food and drinks. It is an extremely potent antibacterial, has been researched as an effective use for reducing blood sugar, and has a warm, spicy, exotic fragrance.

Cinnamaldehyde is the compound that makes cinnamon essential oil perfect for the treatment of various ailments, and has been widely reported to kill bacteria and viruses.

Wonderful for diffusing during the holidays,  it can evoke pleasant memories of childhood Christmases around the fireplace, tasty aromas of cinnamon baked goods, and treated pinecones tossed in the fire will have your house smelling like a cozy winter’s night.

Some studies suggest cinnamon essential oil is effective for combating Streptococcus mutans (a type of bacteria linked to cavities) and that is why it’s found in some mouthwash and toothpastes.

Side effects that are possible warn against the use of cinnamon essential oil by pregnant women, and can possibly thin the blood, so always check with your doctor before use if you use blood thinners. The reason is because the compound in cinnamon EO is coumarin which can be toxic to the liver and kidneys if overused.

Cinnamon has many benefits and uses including pain relief, infection fighter, decreases bad cholesterol, stimulates libido, fights parasites and more.

Well, that’s my list of the six best essential oils for fighting viruses although there are others. Please do your own research and buy quality essential oils, which by the way, do not have to cost a fortune.

Check out my suggestions by clicking on the links and explore the many options there are for diffusing and using essential oils creatively.

There are roll-ons, blends, diffusing jewelry, the sky is the limit!

My Take on Frankincense Essential Oil

Although I’ve blogged about this before, my discussion on Frankincense was on my old blog and this essential oil is worthy of a revisit anyway. This oil is my favorite of all the essential oils I’ve tried and that is why it’s featured first on essential oils week.

Frankincense in pure form before processing into essential oil

Frankincense is one of the oldest and most powerful of the essential oils, some claim it even cures cancer! I use it for prevention, energy, clarity and concentration. It is the way I start most every day, a drop of this and Lemon in my water which I then sip on throughout the day, it wakes me up and gives me a pep in my step.

Essential oils such as Frankincense can be used in this way, or diffused in a diffuser or inhaled straight from the bottle. It can also be used topically with a little carrier oil like almond, coconut or jojoba and rubbed on age spots to lighten them, or the forehead to help with concentration.

Essential oils pass through the skin, making them transdermal, where they then enter the circulatory system and cells. This is what makes them so powerful and some compounds in essential oils have such small molecules, they can pass through the blood-brain barrier.

In addition, healing through the olfactory system is what is known as aromatherapy and therefore simply diffusing certain essential oils can help speed up getting over a cold or prevent it in the first place.

Frankincense is one such oil. It is one of the ancient oils the wise men brought to Jesus as a gift along with Myrrh.

The highest quality essential oils are Organic, Therapeutic Grade Essential, 100% Pure oils and you want to make sure you buy from trusted brands recommended by your doctor or aromatherapist.

I’m not allowed to go into brands I like here, but honestly, I have tried several different brands I know to be trustworthy and I have my favorite in all of them.

Because they are quality, they cost more, but you can’t take chances with your health, so buy from the best. I have personally had such a good experience using mine, I have come close to a panic when I run out!

When I first started using them 2 or 3 years ago, I did so to gain better health and help me in my weight loss efforts. Frankincense and Lemon EOs are my magic bullet, I don’t want to be without them.

More pep in my step meant I could exercise again, plus the added benefit of elevated mood, reduction of inflammation,  and getting over my depression meant I was able to get off my antidepressants. (Don’t worry, my doctors approved.)

Speaking of doctors,  Dr. Axe has a great book that is one of my go-to publications for info on EOs called The Kings Medicine Cabinet, which is where some of this info presented here today came from.

Along with a plethora of great information and history on essential oils, there are handy reference charts that show which oils are applied topically, whether or not you need a carrier oil and which ones are safe for internal use.

I can’t copy from the book, however, it is a free download and if you can’t get it,  email me and I’ll forward you a copy.

If you could have an oil with so many benefits to have in your arsenal, this would be my top choice. I do hope this inspires you to give it a try because really, it can only help.

Even if you don’t want to be as brave as me, get yourself a good diffuser, they are sold in most health food store and online, and some quality Frankincense, and tell me if in a few days, you don’t notice a difference in your mood, energy and spiritual awareness.

Also, please educate yourself by grabbing a copy of the book-I can suggest other resources as well, and let me know if you have any questions I can answer for you.

Why I Refuse to Get Sick

Why do I refuse to get sick? Because I have too many people depending on me, duh!

Really though, I just don’t have time for it. Between appointments, writing, cleaning, errands and whatever else comes up-who does?!

So I woke up this morning with a sore throat, I was achy and as the day progressed, I felt feverish.  This was concerning since I was sequestered with someone who may have had strep last week while on vacation. 😳

The first thing I did to combat these symptoms was to do my oil pulling with a few drops of Oregano essential oil. For those of you that have been following me since Kimmy’s Patio, you know I really believe in the power of essential oils. (and oil pulling with coconut oil)

The next thing was to drink a glass of water with Lemongrass and Grapefruit essential oil in it. (One drop each) If you click on the link, you can get a couple of dollars off on his products (Dr Axe) with his subscribe and save feature.

After a while I still felt feverish, so I relented and took some Tylenol, although I’m loathe to take medicine normally. When all that failed, I went and took a warm shower thinking that might help me feel better.

Well, no. So I began to think maybe my breakfast of Carbmaster yogurt (this is a Kroger brand) and cantaloupe wasn’t enough. So I proceeded to make some 90second Keto Bread so I could have a sandwich for lunch.

After it came out of the microwave and I cut it in half

This bread is normally a fast fix for that craving you get for bread sometimes. This time, I followed a different recipe by someone who suggested then toasting the bread in a hot pan with a bit of butter.

I found Kerrygold in tubs without olive oil added while on vacation!

For those who know me you know I ONLY use Kerrygold butter exclusively!!

Game changer!! It took longer but boy was it worth it! The bread tasted buttery, herbed and delicious! This new recipe suggested I add some dry herbs and then I decided to add in some Nutritional Yeast for that slightly cheesy taste.

I love sneaking Nutritional Yeast flakes into recipes like my egg cups, breads, and salads because it adds B Vitamins, protein, and fiber to your diet.

Yum! I figured two pieces was too much so I only ate half the bread, with salami, ColbyJack cheese, and avocado. Additionally, I added a tsp of mayo for the fat (my brand has 0 carbs)

My completed sandwich along with a few pork rinds for crunch

Once I finished that I got a happy surprise. I had made my favorite keto dessert the day before but neglected to mix it well because I didn’t feel like pulling out the mixer. So today I tried it with my handy Cuisinart Smart Stick. Wow! Smooth, creamy and delicious is how it turned out, in mere seconds!

Sugar free white chocolate keto pudding

I tell you, a couple of tablespoons of this rich, decadent dessert is all you really need to satisfy those sweet tooth cravings! It’s high in fat and calories,so a little dab will do ya.

Even after all of that, here is my approximate macros for the day so far:

1128 calories.  110g fat. 9.7g carbs. 23.4g protein

Now, while my macro ratios are ok, I try to stick to 1500 calories a day when I’m trying to lose a few pounds. I did not leave myself much room, did I? I don’t know, maybe I can eat a proper dinner and stay on track. I usually keep my carbs at or around 25g a day.

I feel full and satiated, even if I still feel yucky and blah all over. I’m getting cranky too, so it must be time for a break. 😊 Hopefully everything I’ve done today will keep the strep away, tonight I’ll have another glass of ACV tea (I’ve had one every night since I got home). Another of my cure-alls. You can read more about it in a past post here.

I hope you try some of these recipes and preventatives, let me know what works for you or not.

How to Recover From a “Keto Catastrophe”

Eating Out Can Lead to Disaster If You’re Not Careful

Take it from me! Yesterday I thought I was doing my dad and I a solid by trying Appleby’s again, my thought being ‘they can’t screw a salad up too bad, right?’ Instead, it was a catastrophe!

Well,  the “salad” was delicious, just not nutritious. It really goes by salad at the most basic of terms. It did have lettuce in it!

I chose Appleby’s Asian Salad with Grilled Chicken. Dad has recently been told by his doctor that he can no longer have bread, pasta, or cereal and that pretty much means he needs to eat more like me.

So we thought salad was a good choice for lunch, and it would have been had I checked the calories, fat, and carbs BEFORE ordering it!! It was unbelievable and tasted so delicious I asked the waitress to bring the menu back so I could see the calorie count.

Per salad, calories-1290! Total fat-85g Total carbs 84! Protein 50!

I felt worse for my dad being pre-diabetic than myself having chose this disastrous meal, I had no idea we were eating so much sugar. On the bright side, neither of us finished them and we drank water with lemon, so there’s that.  🙂

After talking (actually, I sent him an email) to a blogger I follow on Pinterest named Aaron, who is a certified nutritionist and expert in the Keto way of cooking, he runs the blog Fat For Weight Loss , he helped me relax by telling me to think of having a good “week” instead of a good “day” with food and that stressing out makes things worse.

He said “Keep calm and Keto on” and get right back on the Keto train today. We all make mistakes, it’s how you choose to proceed that makes a difference. So I did.

This morning (like yesterday) I started the day with my ACV tea, followed by a nice cup of chai tea instead of my usual bulletproof coffee to reduce my caloric intake today.

Helpful tips and tricks for recovery

His coaching and his recipes make it easy to stick with my program, yet I have a few of my own tricks and tips as well. I always drink ACV tea (apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and stevia mixed in a hot cup of water) when I’ve either:

  • gone off the calorie/fat/carb wagon
  • drank alcohol the night before

The reason this works for me is that the ingredients work together to metabolize glucose to prevent fat storage, aid in digestion and help the bowels eliminate waste. Lemon itself has so many benefits, detoxifying the liver is just one.

In addition, I sip on water all day with a drop of grapefruit essential oil and/or a drop of lemongrass essential oil.

These two oils aid in weight loss (and more) and the reason I prefer lemongrass is because the taste is les sour than plain lemon.  They also detoxify the body.

The Takeaway

So, the takeaway here is, always ask for the nutritional breakdown of your meal before you order when eating out. If the restaurant does not offer it, you can google most of them and get it there.

Cool Tool

Another helpful tool when eating out is to get this new app called HowUDish. This app tells you the places to eat within a specific distance from your home, based on the diet plan you are following.

You just plug in your profile details and the app does the rest! It also provides a breakdown of your macros per meal, and even offers tasty recipes.

I told them I would try out the app and report how well it worked as a little job on UpWork.  I also invited all of my Facebook friends to “like” the app as a favor to the developer.

I love their slogan, “Find the dish that’s fit for you!”

Try it, and let me know how it works for you. As always, questions and comments are welcome. Have a great day!

Exciting News for a Monday!

Good morning everyone and how are you on this beautiful Monday morning?!

I have a bit of exciting news to share with you that I hope will be of some help to all of us! Friday morning my friend and fellow blogger, Roxy (The Oily Guru) texted me with some great news about how to possibly cure my tinnitus that I have been plagued with for quite some time.

She said the essential oil Helichrysum has been proven to stop the ringing in the ears when rubbed in and around the ear along with the mastoid bone behind the ear. For me, this is beyond exciting because I have been suffering from this condition for many years. As you may or may not know, I have written many posts, stories and essays on the subject here and on Medium and I am ready to have tinnitus eliminated from my life!

We had quite the discussion on and off for the whole day about prices, brands, and testimonials of people it helped, even with more than tinnitus. It is well known as an additive in skin creams but is very expensive so she was kind enough to share with me a blend that was less expensive, yet trusted that might work for me. I ordered it later that day (or was it Saturday?) and it will arrive TODAY! So excited! With the money I earned from jobs on Crowd Content, I was able to make my purchase from my PayPal account!  I got permission from Roxy to discuss all this with you here today and I’m happy to share with you the company I purchased my oil from was Hopewell Oils and it is a Helichrysum Substitute Blend. I can’t wait to get it, use it, and share my results with you all! In one of the testimonials I read, it even helped stop the nerve pain from shoulder problems! That would also help me!

As for Roxy, she herself sells Young Living and would love to show you her oils and how you could save money and get a % off all of your oils. Click on the link for The Oily Guru above and it will take you to her site!

Moving on, in other news, I went to a brand new wellness store in Colleyville with my hubby this weekend and he purchased for me a new CBD tincture she had in her shop from American Shaman. It is CBD & terpene rich hemp oil which I am using sublingually. I have been using half a dropper twice a day but may start using a bit less three times a day in place of the muscle relaxers and pain pills. She even gave me a small sample of a CBD enriched lotion to use on the painful muscle spasms in my shoulders and I have to say, it is helping enough to keep me from having to take the other drugs! She was very knowledgeable about all the brands she sells in the store and all of her products. The tincture I got is tropical punch flavored, so it’s not bad at all. One can use it sublingually, put it in water, or vape it. If you would like to check this brand of products, go to Nature’s Mercantile CBD Store.

Actually, after looking online at the products, the brand I bought seems to be the American Shaman CBD products store, so check that one out as well. Unless you are familiar with CBD oil and the different strengths, you will have to do some research like I did and talk to various shop owners to learn more about it.

I have been working on trying to work as normal as possible but around two or three every day I find I need to rest my head against something and give my neck a break. I am still getting physical therapy to the house (they didn’t dismiss me after all) and once I go back to the dr on Jan 26, they will probably start having me go to an outside facility for my PT. Still healing!!

So much yet to discuss! Ok, when I started this blog, I intended it to be a vehicle to help people, a place to share knowledge, recipes, my passion for essential oils, a place to share my creative writing-poetry, essays, short stories, flash fiction-and here lately, it seems to have become more like a personal diary/journal. I want this year’s direction to get back on track with sharing helpful info like it was in the beginning, but still in a casual,” talk about anything” format. I bought a brand new large (but smaller than last year) desk calendar so I can plan blog posts, keep track of other writing assignments and important dates. I will still try to fit in all the stuff I did last year, but my aim is to make a difference in someone’s life by helping you with news you can use, products, recipes, books, services or whatever you need to enrich your life and health.

Yesterday, I discovered that I had earned enough money on my Ibotta app that I could transfer it to my PayPal account. Now I have money again, yea! Remember, Ibotta is the grocery app for your mobile device that helps you get money back on groceries and other things you would normally buy anyway. There are three ways to earn, Send in Receipts, Link Loyalty Cards, or Mobile In-App Purchases. Just click the link and it will take you to a signup page where you can get all the juicy details.

Also, before Christmas, I redeemed my Shopkick gift card to purchase the gift for our White Elephant gift exchange! So it didn’t actually cost me a dime. Cool! And all I did to earn the gift card was to walk in stores and score kicks (points) or scan products and earn kicks, or make purchases at certain stores my card is linked to (like Walmart) and the kicks added up fast! You can do it too, just click on the link and download the Shopkick app, it will take you to a signup page and explain everything you need to know to start earning your kicks. I know it works because I have had the app more than five years and I have redeemed a $25 gift card every year!

Well, the old neck is strained and I should go do my exercises and think about resting it for a little bit. Yall have a wonderful day and if you have any questions about anything I have discussed here today, please ask away by leaving me a comment!

How I Met My Inspiration

Mornin everyone and have I got a treat for you!

This weekend (Friday night) I got to attend a conference by the essential oil and healthcare fitness guru himself…Dr. Axe!! My go-to guy when I talk about all these things on my blog, the guy I look to for recipes and info on essential oils…I actually got to meet!

The seminar was brilliant, he covered a few things I had never heard him mention before and then afterward, we had a Q&A session and pictures!!

Myself and Dr Axe at the seminar

He looks gigantic next to me, it’s probably the camera angle, then again, I’m super short!! 4’9″ to be exact!

This girl was in hog heaven, I recorded the whole speech, so I could refer to it here.

Dr Axe speaking to the crowd

He explained how the body has been treated since ancient times by how hot or cold, damp or dry it is, and how you don’t treat the symptoms of a disease, you find the source.  Like, when you have inflammation, that would be a symptom of it being hot or aggravated and something like Candida (yeast) would be too damp. Then the ancient doctors would treat the patient with foods like bone broth and herbal teas, or essential oils and tinctures.

Hippocrates said “All disease begins in the gut”

He talked about how emotions like fear and worry cause disease like cancer, which his mom had and conquered with chemo at first, and then when that didn’t work, she tried his way with ancient, Chinese medicine like bone broth, herbs, essential oils, and exercise. Today she is in remission and the best shape of her life!

He talked about how in Biblical times they healed the body with foods easy on the system, like bone broth and coconut oil, pears and blueberries, and herbal tea, because they are easy to digest. Changing the diet is the beginning of healing the leaky gut. He also explained how in our society we stay in a high-stress, flight or fight state and that we need to consume adaptogens like essential oils and herbs like holy basil and ashwagandha.

He explained so many things that it would be better for you to listen to the recording. The takeaway for me was how important it is to start eating bone broth to help strengthen my joints and give me a more youthful, wrinkle-free appearance. I need to get back to consuming turmeric and ginger to fight inflammation and improve digestion. I already use a lot of essential oils, yet there are so many more I had never heard of. Black seed, holy basil and milk thistle are some he mentioned several times. Bitter herbs fight dampness in the body and also detox the body of toxins from the food we eat and the environment we live in.

Nutrient-rich bone broth has many benefits

Lucky for us attending the conference, he had his line of essential oils and all of his bone broth products available for up to half off the regular price! So I got some coffee and grapefruit essential oils and did not want to wait in line for the bone broth protein, I got that Saturday night after our date at the Sunflower Shoppe, who sponsored the seminar. Thankfully, it was still half price so I got some chocolate flavored to make smoothies and baked goods with.

His line of products is called Ancient Nutrition and can be found online at Amazon, and at the Sunflower Shoppe which has three locations here in the metroplex or you can purchase online. I have no affiliation with any of these retailers or products, just trying to give some good info so it may help someone. 🙂 He also sells it at his own online store at DrAxe.com.

I have the recording if anyone wants to listen to it, I can email it to you, just ask me in the comments. I hope you try some or all of these products if for no other reason than to begin the healing process and reclaim that youthful glow. But remember, you can’t expect a miracle just using these products alone.

I hope you try some or all of these products if for no other reason than to begin the healing process and reclaim that youthful glow. But remember, you can’t expect a miracle just using these products alone. You have to start with a good attitude, a clean diet and at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. Take a walk, swim, or ride a bike around the neighborhood. Do some research on essential oils and bone broth, read all the benefits and you and your doctor come up with a health plan that works for you. Have a great Monday and I’ll see ya later, on the patio! 🙂

Reaping Rewards and Recovering

Good morning everyone and may I just say how lovely it is to be feeling better today after staying in bed all day yesterday. I was suffering from symptoms of a UTI, which I seem to have flushed out by using my essential oils and drinking tons of water. Want to know which ones I used and how? Just remember, this remedy is not approved by the FDA, nor am I suggesting anyone else try it without talking to your healthcare provider.

I awoke early with that urgent need to pee. Rushing to the bathroom next to the guest room (where I was sleeping due to my hubby’s snoring) I relieved myself….and there it was, at the end of the stream, the old, familiar pain. UGH!!! How did this happen? I can only assume it’s the result of letting my guard down, drinking too much alcohol over the summer and consuming way more sugar than I have since I went Paleo. So, this is what I did:

I drug my bloated, painful belly (and the rest of me) into the kitchen and made my go-to drink for flushing out the germs: 2 T ACV, 2 T pure lemon juice, 2 T raw honey, 1 T Ceylon cinnamon into a small mug of steaming hot water. Drank that down. Then I made my second large glass of water with a drop each of lemongrass and grapefruit essential oils. They work together to kill the bacteria, help ease the pain and reduce the inflammation. The next glass I made I used peppermint oil to try to fight the bloat. See, I don’t want to have to take antibiotics or pay for a doctor’s visit if I can fix things myself with what God intended us to use.

After a light lunch, I put one drop of oregano oil in a warmed mug of chicken broth, held my nose and drank that down. Not gonna lie, it tastes awful but here is what it does:

  • reverses or reduces bacterial infections
  • kills fungal infections
  • kills parasites
  • reduces inflammation
  • kills candida
  • reduces tumors
  • gets rid of allergens

Now, if the compound in oil of oregano, carvacrol can do all that, why should I take harmful antibiotics and risk all those unwanted side effects? In fact, I’m probably going to do it again today, just for good measure and make sure I’ve rid myself of all the potential trouble makers. Studies suggest that oil of oregano can even eradicate E Coli, the very bacteria that is probably reeking havoc on my body. Now, how does it get to your bladder you might ask? Well, I certainly know the rule about always wiping from front to back, every woman knows this, right?! But! There are other ways it can get there because our urethra is so close to our anus.

Urethra is the yellow highlighted part
See how close the two are?

Sorry guys, I should have warned you at the beginning that this was mainly a talk geared for us women, then again, it may help you understand just what your wives and/or girlfriends are going through when they complain about another UTI. I thought maybe the fact that I put on my bathing suit over the weekend without washing it first might have also been a contributing factor. Trust me, it’s clean now!!

Anyway, the point is, I feel so much better today that I once again will get back on the little to no sugar train again because as you all know from my earlier posts-sugar is the devil and no good will come from over indulging in too much. So back to no (or very little) alcohol 😔, stop with the cheating by eating chips and salsa and go back to my strict ways when I first became Paleo.

One more thing, this is very important: never use just any old essential oil!! Especially if you plan to use them like me. Only use trusted oils recommended by your healthcare provider or aromatherapist. I have used several different brands that I know to be pure, 100% therapeutic grade essential oils. As of late, I have been using a new source from a company that has been around a very long time. If you want to know more about this company, pm me and I will tell you how to get them or order them for you, whichever you choose.

Ok, now for the rewards part of the post. Some of you know I have an aerogarden and I have been growing cherry tomatoes and jalapeño peppers this time. Last year I grew Herbs and had basil coming out of my ears!! Anyway, I walked in the dining room this morning and was greeted by this:

Ripening is finally taking place!

I didn’t think they were ever going to ripen, but persistence pays off! (Also pruning) My peppers have not come yet but they did flower. The aerogarden is so simple, just make sure it has water ever day and when the lights indicate it’s time to feed the nutrients, do it. I was hoping that I would have enough tomatoes and peppers to make my own salsa (I can control the sweetener that way) but it looks like I won’t be putting the grocery store out of business any time soon.

Well, that’s it my lovely peeps, I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday and I will see you probably on Friday. Please hit me with any questions or concerns by commenting and I will answer you as soon as possible. Drink your water now and have a great day!!

Buying Guide-Herbs & Essential Oils Super Bundle

*This post contains affiliate links, please see my disclosure.

Hello, it’s Kim here from Kimmy’s Patio to tell you guys about a deal I wish I had been given way back when I first started exploring the world of essential oils and herbal remedies. See, about three years ago, I was getting ready to go on my very first cruise and began to study how to naturally get myself in better shape. I researched everything I could get my hands on, deciding to try the Paleo lifestyle and discovering essential oils along the way.

The problem was, I had to do all the research myself, spending hours reading and searching the internet for books, webinars, and videos, it would have been so much easier if all of that information had been in one handy spot. Had someone told me how much time and money I would have saved by purchasing everything I needed to know about my new passion in one complete bundle, I would have happily bought it on the spot!

Had I had this handy library of information at my fingertips, instead of spending several months searching for the things I needed on my own, I would have had success much sooner. For me, everything was trial and error. I learned it, and it did work for me, but how did I know who to trust? I just had to hope I’d done my homework, and luckily, I had happy results. I lost weight by eating caveman style, I had more energy because I learned which essential oils to use and how to use them. But that can all be different for you. Day 230-Free Days-Sunday Happenings

I so hope you have enjoyed the beautiful day this has been! Sunday in our part of the world got up to 80 degrees, and was spent working on the blog, the yard and dinner for family. Now, to be honest, Dave did the yard, I worked in the office and cleaned up after dinner, but hey-it was still a team effort…go team Smyth, lol.

The family, sans Chris, enjoyed thick, juicy Angus beef from Sams, baked potatoes (some of us had sweet) and salad. Unfortunately, Chris opted to go play disc golf with his friends, which is his choice of course, but he missed out for sure! I did try to help him out before he left by preparing him a special foot soak to treat his athletes foot (poor thing has a chronic problem) and dab treatment with specific essential oils. The foot soak had Epsom salts, tea tree oil, lavender oil, eucalyptus and peppermint, along with baking soda in warm water with apple cider vinegar. After he soaked for five minutes, he dried them well and I dabbed them with a cotton ball that had a few drop some of lavender and tea tree oil. These oils are anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, and some, like lavender, provide anti-inflammatory benefits. I sure hope it helps, but truthfully, he should do the treatment every day.

Now, everyone is gone and I have the evening breeze flowing through the living room, as I Watch Shades of Blue and compose this blog. A perfect end to a joyful weekend. Join me this week for my regular daily features and to hear the outcome of my appointment with the ENT and kidney doctor, which will hopefully end my doctor chores for the month. See you mañana, on the patio! 😎

Day 80-What R U Tired of? Week-Minor Annoyances

img_0550

I’m so glad I blogged early yesterday because I spent most of the day in agony with muscle spasms in my back. I wore my Dad’s back brace that he kindly loaned me on a separate occasion last week! I’m sick of dealing with my stupid back, if it isn’t one thing-my hip out of joint-it’s another, like these too frequent back spasms. The pain goes right over my kidneys, making me worry that it’s them hurting and not my back, except for the fact that I felt the exact moment when it happened. I was reaching for the soap while in the tub when….like a lightening bolt of pain, one second was all it was, resulting in a long day of pain. Same thing happened last week while I was helping Stephanie with her stretches. All I did was bring her legs back up on the bed, the action of the muscles in my back resulted in another spasm so bad I had to sit down and work on getting breath into my lungs. I tried ice, which helped temporarily. Yes, I know I should probably go see a chiropractor but that’s an expensive and time consuming bother right now at this very busy time of the year.

Yesterday afternoon, I could take it no more and finally went to Walgreens and got some Percogesic, an OTC medicine with a pain reliever+mild muscle relaxer.

Surprise shopper at Walgreens yesterday

(seeing this funny sight at Walgreens yesterday slightly lifted my spirits)

It helped, but I’m still sore this morning. Personally, I think all this is stemming from my couch, which wasn’t cheap by the way, and while it fits our space perfectly, it is impossible to sit comfortably on. We are constantly shifting positions, trying to fluff the deep seated cushions, moving the oversized pillows, nothing helps. Anyone want a huge couch that seats eight people-albeit, tall people, “comfortably”? Anyhoo, I’m currently writing this blog from my husband’s old recliner, which may or may not be a better seating alternative. I’ve got my coffee and the diffuser going with some orange, lemongrass and bergamot essential oils, and it smells heavenly in here! By the way, here is in the game room where the recliner is and right now, the minor annoyance is the sun coming through the blinds and right in my eyes! -sigh-
