Day 89-Restoration Abomination!

Omg! Someone came in during the night and stole all our cabinet doors!!

Not really, just another phase in the restoration process, one I dread the most-remodeling the kitchen…right before the holidays! My hubby insists they it will be finished in time for Thanksgiving, I’m cautiously optimistic.

I come from a family with a dad that said things like “you need me to help you with your car? Oh, that will only take 5 minutes” Two hours later…. See, you can’t anticipate problems that crop up. There might be issues with electricity or plumbing, rot or unseen water damage. That’s why I’m hopeful, but not holding my breath.

Meanwhile, in the room we just remodeled (most of the way), I have an addition that not only fit the space perfectly, is so meaningful because it was a gift from some dear friends of mine.

My friends and former employers, Laurie and BJ recently made the decision to give away their art collection, which was large enough to fill a gallery. It was a decision they did not come to without prayer and deep reflection. Then again, they have always been more than generous, not only with me, with all of their family and friends…and they’ve always treated me like family. When they called me and told me they wanted me to have a few pieces of their art collection, I was honored and happy they thought of me. This particular piece was in his office, I was drawn to it because it is nautical, a style my husband and I like and one that works well with the theme of our new bedroom. Then I brought it home and Dave hung it above our bed and I saw that it fit absolutely perfect, matching our colors and theme to a T! If you click on the picture, it should make it bigger. Yes, I know, we don’t have our headboard yet, patience people. My hubby does things in his own time, we will get there!

Well, it’s time for me to go to work, I hope y’all have enjoyed my updates on our remodeling progression, such as they are. I’ll keep you posted with more before and afters, trust me, the kitchen will be dramatic! See ya later on the patio! 😎

Day 48-Free Days-Quick Update

I thought tonight I would give everyone who’s been following along a quick update on our progress in the master bedroom. Today it was finally time to lay the floor. We went with a laminate wood, with a weathered look pattern. I personally love it and cannot wait to get our new furniture to complete the look. Turns out, my son had to work so Dave and I installed it ourselves, luckily, we’ve done it many times just us two.

First, we put down the moisture barrier. Luckily, our flooring came with the pad already attached and is very quiet.

Here is an example of the variation in the pattern.

Finally, a pic of the room at almost halfway finished.

I forgot to take a picture of the finished product before we put the old furniture back in, so you’ll just have to wait until we get the new stuff. Sorry, we were super tired and still had to go feed our fat and go furniture shopping. Dinner was great, shopping, not so much. The plan is for David to make our headboard and then we just have to buy the mattress and box springs (king this time), side tables and a dresser or chest of drawers.

What we want is kind of a white distressed or pickle-washed look, it may take awhile to find what we’re looking for. Wish us luck, and I’ll post another update when it’s all done. I’d rather you see it with the base installed and furniture in place than how it looks today. Hopefully, the wait won’t be too long. For now it’s time for a rest, on the patio.

Day 41- Free Days-Interesting Infestation & Remodel Update

So….yesterday, I opened the blinds in the office window to let my puppy look out and found this! It appears to be an infestation by carpenter ants that ate some material out of the window and then produced this green by-product. Talk about freaked out, I was like…what the heck is that!!!  So I took pics and then this morning I vacuumed up the mess. If we get an exterminater later (we need one) I can then show him the pics I took.

Meanwhile, in the master bedroom, my hubby was trying to finish up the trim paint and get the room ready for flooring. We shopped a couple of stores and I think we came up with a winner.

Soon, we will install the floors, build a custom headboard and get a new king sized mattress and box spring (right now we have a queen) and buy new bedroom furniture. We are going for the beachy cottage look. I can’t wait to show it all finished and decorated. We got the floor samples today…what do you think?

It may be hard to see since it’s sitting on the concrete floor. I will post an update if we choose this one after it is installed. I’m thinking once all the details are addressed, it will all come together and look great! Can’t wait to share the progression. My hubby is so handy and I’m blessed to have him and my son get this project rolling quickly! My job is to advise, consult and decorate, lol. He also got the doors ready for the tv cabinet in the living room. Soon, it will be ready for flooring as well. Moving right along!

Tomorrow, we plan to go buy the flooring but probably won’t install it until later this week. We will be otherwise occupied with church, grocery shopping and planning family dinner. We love hosting it and I can’t wait until all the remodeling is done and our kitchen will probably be the last (huge) project we do. Once finished, things will be so much easier to work around in and so much more roomy.

I hope you enjoy the updates and you feel free to comment or make suggestions-it’s never to late to make changes if necessary. Until tomorrow, I’ll be relaxing on the patio. 😉
