Did Someone Say Truffles?

Going Keto Doesn’t Mean No Dessert

Happy Monday everyone, sorry I am blogging so late but it’s been a busy Monday here on the patio. After a pleasant weekend celebrating Dave and Sean’s birthdays, visiting with family and friends, and enjoying delicious food, I needed to get busy before the rain returns. It’s been a beautiful, warm, sunny day so after kitchen duties, I needed to work in the yard a bit and clean up my beds, and get rid of an abundance of clover that had taken over. And did I tell you, I made truffles? More on that in a moment.

The other birthday boy, Sean, with his brothers Chris and Josh and Josh’s girlfriend Chasity

I’m working from my new laptop, made possible by my hubby Dave and Apple support! See, I had to figure out why I could not retrieve my mail before I could start working on this machine. My Mac was nice, but Dave decided that I would like the new laptop better because it uses the windows platform. Well, I guess we will see, first I have to get used to a new keyboard, a new way of doing things, and figure out where everything is located on this new machine. Then, I had to work on the website itself, get SiteGround on here so everyone knows what great hosting I have and how you can too, and then Apple had to help me fix my email, which they did, and now I’m all set! I’m a happy camper at the moment.

This morning was very busy in the kitchen as usual. I made our egg cups for the week, boiled some eggs for later use in salads or just a quick breakfast or lunch, and then I made the most delicious version of No-Bake Almond Joy  CheesecakeTruffles. Can you believe they are Keto? Wait until you taste them, it really is miraculous they taste so good. Mine are a little bit different because I was out of Vanilla extract, so I used Orange and Almond extracts instead. I followed a recipe I pinned from Mouthwatering Motivation. Super simple, and if I hadn’t used orange extract, it really would have tasted like an Almond Joy! Ya’ll understand that clicking on the link will take you to her Pinterest page right? Cool! I personally LOVE the chocolate/orange taste sensation, but if you don’t, then just stick to her recipe. Now I will have a snack ready to grab when other people are eating dessert. Or when I’m tired of fat bombs or need a change of pace. After this weekend, I need to get back on track. 😉

Guys, these are seriously yummy!
Fresh from the freezer and ready to devour!

After kitchen work was yard work, I wasn’t about to waste this beautiful day inside writing all day when the rain will soon return.  I literally filled a garbage can full of weeds, leaves, and clover. If I could have mowed, I would have! Before you ask, Dave would have a fit, that’s why! I even took my outer shirt off for a little while (gasp!) it was that warm while working hard. The minute I came in, cleaned up, and got busy writing, I became cold again, so I had to close all the windows and put my shirt back on.  🙁

Not perfect but better after weed removal

I hope you’ll try the truffles and that your Monday was enjoyable if not productive. Shoot me a question or comment and thanks for stopping by the patio!

Saturday Spotlight-Who Is the Best For Hosting Your Website? (Product Review)

This post contains affiliate links- please check my disclosure.

Today, Kimmy shines her spotlight on SiteGround and how it is the best company for hosting your website.

I’m recommending them because they were recommended to me by Grayson Bell when I was setting up my website, and I have never regretted that decision.

Here are some reasons why they are the best choice for you:

After performing tests with several other web hosting companies, SiteGround outshines them all in these four areas:

Speed– Their loading time with cache is the fastest at 1.3 seconds

Performance– Compared to the industry average which is 2853 hits handled, they hand 3 times more without cache-8276! If you add cache, they handle 230,000 hits! Hits means traffic, for those who aren’t sure.

Support– They have the best support, hands down than any of the 12 other hosting companies tested.

Security- They keep your site safe by offering hack protection and guarding you from your neighbors.

As you can see from the screenshots, SiteGround has performed the tests to prove they have what it takes to be the best in the business of web hosting.

I personally use them for my website and have had no problems in over a year of service, my questions have always been answered promptly and I get weekly updates from them letting me know that my site is clean. That’s peace of mind, I just set it and forget it. They do all the heavy lifting for me. I’ve also had no interruptions in service.

The one and only issue I’ve had is continuing my service-it was time to re-up for another year and I experienced a glitch when trying to pay and ensure I wasn’t about to lose my website. It all got worked out though, between one of their technicians and Grayson Bell, who kind of acts as a liaison between them and me. He has been such a help to me when I have had any question at all, never getting flustered or put out with me.

They also have the best price of all the other hosting companies at $2.95 per month for one website, 10,000 visits monthly, and all essential features. If you’re just starting out, this is most likely all you need. Hurry, this pricing is only good through Sept. 30!

I encourage all of you needing to start a website to click this link-SiteGround and it will take you straight to the sign up page and get you started enjoying the best web hosting your money can buy.

Day 264-Free Days-Why You Need To Check Out My Website

*This post may contain affiliate links, please check my disclosure.

As Sophie would say on Two Broke Girls tv show: Hello everybody!

This morning I am bummed to be bringing you this post from a cold and very windy patio, because we have outside work to do today and I am a big baby about feeling cold. 😭

On the other hand, I have good news to share-I finally have my first (not technically) affiliate post published over at my website Products From the Patio. Remember when I accidentally erased my first post? Well, I redid it and now my review of SiteGround is officially live!

I have decided that for the time being I will do a trial run and have a weekend website of sorts, with a post on Saturdays called the Saturday Spotlight where I will review a product or service that has helped me in my business, whether from the writing aspect or just something that makes my life better in general. The on Sundays, I will have another called The Sunday Review and that will be it for the week. That way, I will not become overwhelmed and when my year of daily writing is up on this blog, I may re-evaluate things.

So, if you are interested in starting your own website, or just want to see how I did on my first product review, please head over to Products From the Patio and check it out, send me some love in the form of comments and/or suggestions and I will be so appreciative!

PS: I’m still having computer problems so if my link does not work, find me at kimsmyth.org (Products From the Patio)

An Apology and A Promise

Sorry folks, but I have to apologize here, a week or so ago, I did a post reviewing SiteGround and then accidentally lost it. Erased it to be more accurate. That will teach me to save every post, so it can be recovered in the future. Now, while I could redo the post, I’ve decided that the best thing to do for my website and my affiliate, is to back up and regroup and better plan my blog posts so that my readers have more material to read. I’m hoping this takes less than a month to get done, and I appreciate all your patience. Rest assured, SiteGround’s review will be my first new post, once I get all my material on a schedule. Thanks you for your understanding of my situation.

Day 240-Wednesday's Medical Minute-How Stress Affects Us

*This post may contain affiliate links, please check my disclosure.

In light of yesterday’s post about how stress maybe because of my ear issues, I decided to do today is medical minute on stress and how it can affect us.

While I don’t know yet why or how stress can cause my ears to be hypersensitive, stress is a killer and it affects us in many negative ways. My stress is likely due to a number of factors, guilty conscience (because I was allowed to stop working in the 9 to 5 work world) and David bears the brunt of the responsibility, pressure I put on myself to be there for everyone who matters to me, (Just like any mom, wife, daughter or friend),  pressure I put on myself to become a freelance writer and earn a living from it. Some of the risk factors of stress are:

  • Social and financial problems
  • Physical or mental illness
  • Lack of social support networks
  • Family discord or family history of stress

Signs and symptoms of stress are:

  • Anxiousness
  • Nervousness
  • Excessive worry
  • Distraction
  • Internal pressure
  • Changes in sleep patterns

Good lord I have all of this!!

PS: I am talk texting this post to reduce my stress this morning. 🙂

  • These emotional states began to affect a persons outward appearance:
  •  Unusually anxious or nervous
  • Distracted
  • Self absorbed and/or
  • Irritable or angry

(Guilty of all charges 😉 )

*If it increases or lasts over a long period of time, a person may experience more emotional or physical symptoms such as:

  • Excessive fatigue
  • Depression
  • Thoughts of suicide, or harming others
  • Headaches
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Chest pain
  • Racing heart
  • Dizziness
  • Restlessness
  • Hyperventilating
  • Shortness of breath

I will admit to 2-4 of these symptoms myself, but don’t worry-I would never harm myself or others!

What can we do to manage stress ourselves you might ask?

According to my research there are several ways to accomplish this, some I need to implement myself.

  • Set realistic goals and limits for yourself
  • Put things into perspective and try to get upset about insignificant or an important matters
  • Take stress management, Time management, or anger management classes
  • Find activities that you enjoy and set aside time to participate in them on a regular basis
  • Consume a healthy diet
  • Participate in regular physical exercise
  • Avoid or reduce alcohol and caffeine intake
  • Maintain a positive outlook
  • Set goals and break them into easily achievable tasks
  • Reward yourself for the good things that you do each day

*Source-Emedicinehealth

I found a quote by Victor Frank that says, ” When we are no longer able to change a situation we’re challenged to change ourselves.”  I think that’s pretty fitting for me anyway.

For more information on stress visit the American Institute of Stress and also emedicinehealth.

I realized that one of the things that stressed me out this week was losing my post on SiteGround that I did on my website Products from the Patio. Somehow while trying to insert a picture on that post, that was pin-worthy, I erased the whole post!! Now I have to start all over- or, back up and regroup and relaunch my website later.

Other stressors for me are time limits, which I suppose falls under the category of setting unrealistic goals for myself, since I try to get so much done in one day. Then when I don’t achieve those goals I feel guilty and lose my motivation. Just being honest here, but I can see I have a lot of work to do on myself. Maybe my doctor’s right and part of the problem with my ears is stress related.

What are your stressors? How do you deal with them? Any comments are welcome and or suggestions too.

Day 233-Wednesday's Medical Minute-…Or Is It?

Good morning everyone! While I know today is supposed to be the day for medical news you can use,  I just have to tell you how excited I am, after yesterday’s long day of work, to finally have a post done on my newly renamed website! I’m attempting a collaboration between this site and that one, which I’m calling Products from the Patio. I wanted to create a place where I can still be helpful by providing product reviews, recipes and buying guides from the things I talk about here on the patio.

I would like to invite you all to check out my first post- Product Review-SiteGround Hosting Service-and I plan on trying to do a bit more design work today if I can, I finally gave in around 6pm last night when my eyes started crossing. You can only look at the computer for so long! I realize, that by now I should have an email list, but since I don’t, I’m asking y’all to check it out right here. I appreciate any constructive criticism and/or feedback you can give, not only on the post, but the website in general. I am still not happy with the theme, maybe that is what I will tackle today.

Yesterday’s post is my first attempt at putting an affiliate link on my website-and I did a banner too! So, I have to include my disclaimer right now…this post may contain affiliate links, which means if you click on a banner or link, I may get a little compensation.  The bad news is, by the time I finally figured out how to get the banner on, it was late and I’m unhappy with where I put it, which is at the very bottom of my webpage…but hey, it’s on there!! I’m so proud of myself, yet I realize I have lots of work to do. So, with that being said, here is what the post is about.

Those of you that may be interested in starting your own website or money making blog will need to obtain hosting. That is where SiteGround comes in. They provide fast, safe, reliable support and do the best job at hosting your website. They are who I use, and I found them through Grayson Bell (he offers free set up to fellow WordPress bloggers)-otherwise, I would have gone with another company with a reputation for cheap yet unreliable hosting services. Grayson truly has been a godsend, staying calm when I have pestered him with all my questions. The company themselves are very helpful as well, I’ve had no problems in my year+ of their services.

It is easy to start a website or blog with WordPress and they provide step-by-step instruction, but basically you just pick a host-in my case, SiteGround and then choose a plan, domain name (free) and enter your contact info. Most web designers say to use your own name as your domain, like I did, and then you can name your site anything. My domain is kimsmyth.org and the site name is Products From the Patio. If you need help, there are lots of bloggers out there like Michelle Gardner who runs Making Sense of Cents who will teach you tips for beginners. You can find her directly or on my Pinterest page, under Freelancing tips.

I hope I have helped in some way and that you go and check out my new site later, for now I have to get busy with all the other writing I have to get done before I go to Dad’s, like working on the next in my series- Angels of Arvada, which will come out on Friday. Don’t forget to leave me a comment or suggestion if you have one or ask me a question if need be. I will try to help in any way I can. Have a happy Wednesday and I’ll see ya tomorrow, on the patio! 🙂
